No doubt this kind of discussion will get the VASC heartland really excited.

...because it's already been built and plenty of people still buy them around the world?
Most first world countries biggest market at the moment are small CUV's, but in this day and age, what people are buying has zero to do with what is represented on the racetrack. The general public just wants to see quick, loud cars, not more versions of the penalty boxes they have to deal with on a daily basis. In case you haven't noticed, all the major national tin-top series are for CARS, most of which are the more high-level models or trims. Zero national tin-top series run the mass-market sellers(outside of MAYBE Argentina), and the people attending or watching on television, Do. Not. Care. Racing is no longer a marketing effort for the model represented on the track, but more for the brand as a whole. Whether someone drives a Camira or a Commodore, they'll be waving the flag for their Holden branded product to beat the rest. Over on this side of the world, in our national tin-top series, most people that show up to the racetrack on any level come in some sort of SUV or pickup truck, with rivalry between the brands just as heavy as it is down there for Holden v Ford. They don't give a damn what model is represented on track, so long as their particular manufacture is beating the others. While KIA doesn't have that level of rivalry with any manufacture, having them on the track will give every family that drives everything from the small Rio, all the way to the K900, something to cheer for. |

Errr.. it's actually surprising as to the level of niggle between Hyundai & Kia..
If Hyundai joined the series, the level would be UP UP UP... |

The market for full size has cars had definitely reduced but there is still a market for them. I think that the Commodore is still in the top ten models sold here sale wise and of course there is a market for full size sedans world wide too. Not the outright sales leaders they once were here in Oz but still worth building something to appeal to a section of the market that Kia currently don't compete in.

It's really helped moving all those Altimas I see out on the road. Why would Kia think they know how to do it so right when Nissan seemed to have got it fairly wrong?

The Supercars program was about raising brand awareness, not so much for the Altima itself. You probably won't find that many Altimas sitting in holding yards, compared to other slow sellers. |
