Young Australian karter Ryan Briscoe has landed the opportunity of a lifetime by joining the Toyota development program.

The announcement came at the Australian Grand prix at Albert Park.

Briscoe will leave kart racing this year and race in the Formula Renault Eurocup and italian Formula renault series with backing from Toyota and it is intended that he will progress to Formula 3 next year.

hopefully Ryan has a big future in the sport and now with Toyota behind him he looks earmarked to go all the way to formula One.

once again more proof that karting is the best breeding ground for tomorrows champions.

redback should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It was good to see a little bit of a story on this on Sports Tonight also. I think the media (in Aus)are finally taking karting seriously. It can only be good news for young guys trying to gain sponsorship. Senna was the first F1 driver that I recall being associated with karts, I'm sure there were others before him. I must look up what previous drivers started in to gain experience. Billy Karts?

Nigel Mansell started out in karts and Graham Hill used them for practise in the '60's

Ryan has completed a very sucessfull test of his Formula renault car at Brno in the Czech republic and managed to come out heading the time sheets.

the test was a planned 2 day test but sadly ryan was only able to complete the second day as the day 1 was spent in the Australian consulate trying to sort out his Visa to allow him to enter the country.

well done Ryan and good luck for the year.
