ETCC: The new Honda Accord

First test for new Accord
ETCC 28/04/04

JAS Motorsport’s brand new Honda Civic 2.0i in the FIA Super 2000 technical specifications, completed its first test today, at the Italian racetrack of Adria. “It was only a shake down. Just a few laps before sending back the car to our workshop, where we will finish working on the details and the livery before sending it to Magny-Cours for racing in the ETCC meeting,” the team’s technical director Stefano Fini explained.

JAS regular ETCC driver, Alessandro Balzan, was at the wheel. “Alessandro was very pleased. The few laps he completed today were enough to see that the Accord at the very beginning of its development is already as good as the Civic Type-R we have used so far,” said Fini.

The Honda Accord 2.0i completed this first test in Adria without any technical problems, which was a very good omen in view of its first appearance in the fifth and sixth rounds of the FIA European Touring Car Championship, this weekend on the French circuit of Nevers Magny-Cours.

Wow! Looks great
Hope it will be a competative car.

According to www.eurostc.com former motorcycling world champion Tetsuya Harada might drive a Accord in the 2nd half of this season.

I've read somewhere that the Accord was already 1.7s quicker around Adria then the Civic. Correct?

For years, I've been drooling to get a glimpse of ST and Euro touring cars. This time, I think it's the other way around. They look quite similar? I wonder if JAS is sharing any info with it's NA "counterpart/twin" Realtime is like the NA equivalent of JAS. Realtime does receive funding Honda thru it's Acura subsidiary.

He could bring to JAS the Honda's support.

Looks good. Hope they don't put Harada in it tho. He was good in 250cc but I doubt he'd be on the pace in the ETCC!

It does look very nice doesn't it.

Any help yet from Honda, or are JAS still going it alone?

I reckon we should wait and see on Harada, if he does indeed race it. Two-wheelers have in the past made successful transitions for cars, Surtees, Cecotto, Gardner, Hansford, Crosby, Slight, Ward etc...spring to mind.

JAS are an independent team but they have always been closely linked with HONDA. Don't know if this means they are getting any support?!

Nice car though, the side of it looks very Alfa-esque!

Sounds a lot like Realtime in NA. They get enough support to have a good (vehicle) foundation, but need to seek outside sponsors to really keep team running/making it to races. As well, can't be aggreassive during the racing season. No doorcrashing/bumper car racing!

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm not too crazy about the widened sides and flared fenders.

The Honda 'H' is on the roof and on the sides there is a Honda logo on the Accord. This was not the case on the Civic... Looks like they are part of the deal from now on. Hopefully a full works effort next year!

The new Accord reminds me of the good old Super Touring Accord.

IMO the car had a good premiere with a 14th and 10th position.

I just love it! Honda, please come back with a full works effort. This car has potential... Good performance by Alex & JAS.
