The new V8 saloon series-any news?
James Tucker's new V8 series looks on paper to be well worth the effort but does anyone have any ideas on who/what maybe entering the new series-and will it have an adverse effect on the usually splendid Britcar grids? Obviously some cars will move over to the new series but will this just thin out the Britcar grids and at the same time see the new series with just a handful of starters or will both series be swimming with entrants as we dearly hope?? James must be applauded on his new venture-I just hope it all goes to plan and doesnt backfire...best of luck James on the brave new venture and for 2006!

You mean this one discussed earlier?
I think the general result was to prompt the 'Future of...' thread. |

As I understand it, all will be revealed at autosnort interthrashional.
I will be there, asking questions.... and if the answers are right, the chequebook will open for a registration! Rob. |

Thanks Simon.
Just had a look in the EERC site. There are to be 4 rounds of the V8 Supercar Challenge, though I have read, and re-read the site, and can only see 3 - part of the Snetterton 300 round, and the last two cold-mid-freezing-winter-series meetings in November. What's more, I don't quite see the value compared to Britcar : Snetterton 300 - £995 for 5 hours. V8 Challenge = 3x30mins for £800. I'm sure James will explain the error in my ways at the show.... |

I *might* do Snetterton, as I was going to do the Track & Races Cars event there anyway. 5th August *might* clash with a Thunder/Super/Special Saloon one-off race I'm trying to organise at Rockingam.
November...brrrrrrrrrrrrrr, though it'll be luverly and warm inside the car.... Rob. |

The V8 Star Jaguar that was on display on the EEERC stand to publicise the series at Autosport looked awesome.

I'm starting to warm to the idea of doing Snetterton and Donington, even though my own project (a race for 1970's/80's Super/Special Saloons, and Thundersaloons at Rockingham) may lead to there being a race on the 12/13th August for me to do. Rob. |

I have one and only one big grump about it.
I'll have to be Racing_9 while wearing my V8 Challenge hat. Can't have 59. It's a Prod S1 number. Dammit. |

Lets all hope that it happens and that we have some really good clean racing that will incourage more cars and drivers to sign up for the series. Has anyone any ideas of who has entered for the series?

Stuart, I'm sure it will all go to plan and that more names will surface in Autosport over the coming weeks as you did! James will be the person to ask I guess but I do know of another Britcar driver which is building a V8 BMW for the series who hasn't been mentioned before and I dont think I will in case he wants to make a splash of it at some point but I'm sure it will be a super series...I'll be there for all of them again taking pictures for the mags and drivers/teams!

Funny old rules for this arn't they? Not that I would enter as it is out of my league but if I were to enter my black Camaro I would have to strap on ballast, most odd as it currently is all steel and glass as it left the factory!
Rob did you say you were thinking of doing this, if so is that Belmont going to comply as the regs I found on the net seem a bit fussy. Also would you really pay that £500 registration fee just to maybe do a couple of rounds, how do they justify charging that I wonder? |

The first thing that strikes me about the rules are that my car, the Peugeot that Kelvin Burt is going to run, most ex-DTM cars, and many of the other cars that they are hoping to attract, all fall foul of a couple of very clear rules.
1. You may not change from front wheel drive to rear wheel drive, or vice-versa. Astra (Belmont) ooops. Astra (DTM) ooops. Peugeot 407 (oooops) 2. Dashboard - oooops. Never mind. I look forward to going on their rolling road. I am just about to place an order for a couple of bags of blue circle for the weight. Still, it should be fun. As for the charging, only Mr Tucker knows... Rob. |

Thats what I am getting at and if that case how are you going to be allowed to run in it as clearly the Belmont falls foul of the regs not least because it front wheel drive converted to Rear wheel drive, and what about the body shell etc, I bet my car is one of the few that could actually meet most of the requirements in its/their current rules apart from the fact at under 1300kgs its too light and as more or less stock suspension it will not be competitive! Or is it going to end up as one of these very loosly policed and interpreted series that ends up letting all and sundry in to survive.

I get the feeling that it will be policed on the power to weight ratio basis, rather than the basic spec of the car.
The rules regarding front/rear wheel drive etc.. stand for Britcar, yet the "Super Mini" races in it, which is M3 powered, rear wheel drive, and a spaceframe. I'm still toying with full blown Britcar, but to do that, I'll have to fit the dry break refuelling kit that I keep putting off until next weekend, until next weekend, until..... We'll see what happens at Oulton Park (which I won't be doing), and who turns up. My first outing is looking to be Snetterton on 13/14th of May, which will make it a busy weekend - doing the V8 Challenge and TRC. Rob. |
