Dunlop L measurements

When measuring the front and rear track
do you guys include the tyre "bulge" or do
you work from the tread contact patch?

Thanks

Edge of the tread is where the track ends.

Neither. Track is measured from the centre of the wheel/tyre to the centre of the opposite wheel/tyre on the same axle.

Hope this helps!

We had a problem with this very thing at Dijon.Scrutineer insisted on measuring from the outside side wall,it was explained that the measurement should be taken from the centre as described, he took an awful lot of persuading to agree that the measuring equipment was not quite as it should be.

Exactly the situation I am looking to avoid!

I will use this thread as my defence.

Easiest way is to measure from the outside edge of the tread on one side to the inside edge of the tread on the other as this is equivalent to measuring centres and easier to do - however you need to do it with new tyres to ensure you have not scrubbed the edges off the tread footprint.

Peter- I love point 5 in your link - would scrutineers allow us to jack the car up on the chassis to measure the track - would be great for us independent suspension bods as the track gets narrower!

For calculations, track is measured from the centre of each tyre, not from the overall width.

Although it is technically correct to measure centre to centre, its the same thing but more accurate to measure from the inside of one tyre to the outside of the other tyre, as in fabrication measure from the inside of one hole to the outside of the other or measure the outside to the outside then subtract one hole / tyres width.
