According to news bulletins over the last couple of days Channel 10 could soon be winning the contract for AFL coverage.

This is a very real threat to our V8 Supercar coverage and also the smaller coverage they give to World Rally and the American Le Mans Series.

I can already see it now, V8 Supercar coverage being pushed back to midnight Sunday night all because of some AFL game.

Once again motorsport fans will lose out to some boring as hell ball sport.

Your thoughts ?

The only things to worry about would be things shown on saturdays, as I beleive Ten only get saturday games, and Nine gets the rest.

Things will be much better in Tassie though. Motorsport fans have had to put up with races being telecast at midnight due to the AFL, hopefully we will now get it live like the rest of Australia.

i think that foxtel should do v8 supercars live (that way those who have it can see the support acts aswell) - 10 can still do there crappy 3.00pm version cause foxtel and 9 will do the footy live

Ten will be doing it different next year due to the different format. Therefore are races such as adelaide and canberra under threat?

I think from memory we will only see 2 3pm telecasts.

The consortium(big word) of channels 9,10 and foxtel have put in there bid for the afl coverage, but channel 7 does have the right of reply on the offer,so hopefully they bid a bit higher.
From what i have heard 10 will only screen the saturday games.
Also channel 10 are showing V8 supercars from 2pm - %pm to allow for the longer races.

Several V8Supercar events are two day telecasts now, for example Canberra, Adelaide & Bathurst. Those event's will be compromised by a clash with AFL Saturday (except Bathurst). There is to be no preferential treatment state by state for the two 'Rugby Leauge' states. AFL will get preferential treatment over every other sport in the country with the possible exception of Cricket. The sooner Tony Cochrane and AVESCO swallow this, the sooner they can move on and make progress.

Gomick: there is presently no facility to telelcast V8Supercar live, and to do so would be a backward step. Global Television do an excellent job telecasting the event for Ch10 as it is. Even if there was the ability to broadcast live at every round, that would cause massive disruption to the support categories at each race meeting, and would also reduce to non-existant the chances of damaged V8's making the grids of later races at the same event.

Live coverage...bwahaha...anyone care to remember Lakeside 1989? A production car went through the fence causing a huge delay, a FFord flipped causing another, and there was the massive fireball under the bridge, which took an hour to clean up...so much for the live TV...
