Collard withdraws from BTCC
According to Motorsport News, Rob Collard has pulled out of the BTCC due to his engine problems and is trying to get a ride for the last 3 ETCC meetings instead.

It is sad that he has left, but he should go better in the ETCC, as the field is more even and no so dominated by one car.

Sad to see him go, but I think from his point of view the car was wasting a lot of time and money and I think it broke the final straw, and It'l be great to see him in a good car in the ETCC as he desearves it!
On another note I hear that he may be moving to ASCAR for 2003, and is even hoping to buy a car for the rest of 2002, he has approached chassis makers on numerous occasions, mentioned by ASCAR.CO.UK and AUTOSPORT a while back. |

He's got a short oval background, so that is a fairly logical step to make.
What has domination got to do with the BTC Production class Hakkiman? When his car worked, it finished on the podium every time. And gave Kaye a run for his money. |

Sad to see him go but he was truly wasting his time and money with that Clio, it was so sad to see their hopes dashed every weekend.

what I couldn't understand is why all the trouble with that car.
If you were to take the front Clio championship car and stick it with no changes in the production grid it was occasionally as high as 5th. With the Clio's reliablity it would have finished pretty high. So why didn't he? or couldn't he? |

The way the article is written makes it sound like he is entering the ETCC in a Clio - I hope that's not the case, because if it is, he has no chance.

Clio championship cars have sequential 'boxes, proddies don't. I'd be a touch worried if that was the case with my cars.........so I'd buy a DTC winning car courtesy of WSR. Must be past it's sell by date or looked after badly.

Collard's Clio WAS an ex-DTC car built by WSR.
Les, the technical regs between Clio Cup and BTCP are very different. Sequential box for one as Mocko has already said, plus a lot of what you can and can't do to the engine. I'd be interested to see what sort of drive he gets in ETCC. I have to admit I don't follow the series close enough but I didn't think there were that many (good) seats available. |

Can anyone refresh my memory regarding his BMW? Was it self-built or a BMW kit car? How about his engine?

I think I remember reading that Peter Kox left his drive, so maybe that's where Rob's heading. Unless it's been filled, which I don't know.

Kox's drive with the BMW GB backed team has been filled by one of the Coronels and Pierre-Yves Gossellin recently I think.

Vatanen: Kaye. He makes it boring. Even with a penalty, he still leads and wins.

James has only won 5 of the possible 16 races this year so it's hardly what I call domination!

As has been said, the Clio is an ex WSR prepared DTC car. One of the problems is that the DTC and BTC Production regulations are different. I believe the car was never designed to run BTCC length races and has never been properly adapted to do so. From what I understand, the team think that the car could do better under different regulations.

Damn, what a shame see Colliard not racing in the production class in his Renault. I guess this will be the last French car company not racing in the BTCC.

So a DTC race is shorter and the hp allowed under the rules are lower?

RJN Nissan drive for Collard in the remainder of the ETCC meetings this year.
