New Spanish test track

Apparently this track is almost ready for F1 cars to test on.

http://www.f1technical.net/news/4576

http://www.circuitomonteblanco.com/

Could possibly upgrade to F1 standard in the future.

Another slow corner nightmare.

Looks like another Valenica.

Valencia is not a bad track actually. You can sit almost anywhere and see the whole of the track.

It seems that F1 tracks are destined to be of the compact variety and not of the more sprawling types like Spa,Monza, the old (sob) Hockenheim and Silverstone.

Yeh that doesn't look too fun. A good testing circuit then.

Yes, but what is the use if there is no overtaking?

Ranald should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The circuit has a section that has copied part of Monaco specifically for F1 testing. The section from Mirabeau through Leows and Portier traces through the circuits offices.

I'd make sure I'd got a good view of the pit stops.

Not possible surely? Most desks are wider than the Monaco track!

Some corners aren't wide enough for Ferrari's though it would seem.

this new track has section designed to recreate street circuits like Monaco, Pau, Macau - expect to see the F3 crowd there.

Nope, the circuit was designed by a gentleman named Jamie Nogue.

The replicated section from Monaco is really clear.

Jeez, has circuit design gotten that stale?

Here is my design that I knocked up in about 10 minutes...

Lots of fast corners, a bit of a Zeltweg clone, with lots of slightly banked fast corners...

A breath of fresh air then! Thanks for the linky..

Well worth watching. Although the track is way too long. The monaco section is good its just too long....I know there is different configurations but it would be good for sports car endurance races.
There is a few nice corners...A bit samey though..

I've always agreed there should be two Spanish rounds, the other as a street circuit in Valencia or Madrid, that would be huge..'The European Grand Prix'...

Hi Ranald

It´s a new project built in Spain named "The city of motorsport". Mainly built like test track for F1 and Spanish national championships, but with a strong motorsport industry too.

An interesting project, you can find more info at: www.laciudaddelmotor.com . Soon with more info in english.

How can it be 'too long' when many of the classic circuits were long? (Spa, original Nurburgring, Montlehery, old Hockenhiem, Rheims) Many of todays great circuits are also long...Road America, Brno, VIR, Sebring, Daytona...?

Or is it we have become so used to minimal circuits that now anything outside the 2.3-3.3 mile window is now too long... or too short (original Monaco was less than 2.0 miles)
\Tilke my man, you've won again....

Herman Tilke didn't design this track to be fair. Jamie Nogue from a company called tngpo.

The track(s) seems to be optimized for testing, with some interesting devices and many configurations.

For F1 *races* it looks a little bit short, though. With this I mean that the >4km variants are convoluted, and the non convoluted variants are <4km.

Anyway these days almost any track produces bad racing in F1 and good racing in any other series!
