Caterham Endurance racing???

Didnt really know where to put this so this is a start. Right basically Is there any event/chapionship in which a caterham r400 would be eligible to race in any endurance races?? I have had a quick look but cant really find anything?? Me, my dad and my brother would all love to do an endurance event in the caterham (is this a good idea ) but need some advice which events we would be able to race in. We have all done sprint races etc but never anything larger and would really love the challenge.

Cheers in Advance

Thanks for the reply but as there is three of us using the car we ultimately want to try and find something we can all do and I believe that you can only double drive in those sorts of championships. Were also looking at doing more of a 6/12 hour event if possible. I think we are already doing SEMSEC and CSCC next year but we are looking for something a bit bigger this year.

Cheers

I believe the Britcar boys are making a race series along these lines.
Perhaps if you visit pistonheads.com and check out the forums, then the britcar bit they may be able to give you more info. Certainly the series organiser, Mr Tucker, does post there.

I've moved this to our 'racers forum' where you may get more ideas, but to be honest I think you'll struggle. 2 driver, 40-or-so-minute races are numerous, 3 driver 6/12 hour races are very much few and far between.

Cheers for moving it to the appropriate place. Yeah I thought as much, I have never really seen any caterham in endurance racing and thought it would be fun to have a go in one. Guess I'll have to stick to sprint races

There used to be the Centurian challenge, but I don't think that ever went beyond 2 hours. The cost of proper endurance racing is going to be severe, hence it doesn't really happen outside of Britcar.

Caterhams used to run in the Nurburgring 24 hrs but that seems to have gone upwards to the realms of very professional and/or well-heeled teams in more exotic / expensive / quick machinery in recent years. And it would be a big step up, there's not much in between.

Caterhams were banned from the 'Ring 24 Hours about 5 years ago when an R500 came 8th (?) overall; it was on safety grounds, nothing to do with beating cars costing ten or twenty times more...

The R400 that was banned from the nurburgring was bought by Paul Crankshaw and was recently raced in the 750MC..

There's the Birkett Relay, run by the 750MC at Silverstone but that's not exactly what you're looking for as its format is each driver in his own car. Don't see why you shouldn't share a car though. That's a 6 hour event.

There may be an element of truth in Graeme's post, but there is a serious side to mixing Caterhams/Locost/Westfields etc. with bigger cars. The major problems is one of vision and maneouvrability. The cars are extremely nimble and can (and from my experience do) disappear into blind spots, so from that aspect I wouldn't like to mix them. However there is a discussion in Historics about an alternative 6hrs race. Why not post your thoughts there?

Same could be said for a variety of cars in testing or mixed races - when your driving a little 100bhp Caterham and testing with Radicals and other very fast sports cars that appear out of nowhere and disappear almost before you even spotted they were there!

They are happy to mix Caterhams in testing for races ---- so why not in the actual races themselves!?!?!?!

Madness if you ask me. Part of racing is to be vigilant and see whats around you at all times - no matter if its a car smaller and more nimble then your own or exactly the same....

Just my thoughts........
