Erick Cunha should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
2012 Brazilian Manufacturers Championship

Season is on the way!! With several news, including new teams, new drivers and new manufacturers. Let's begin with the schedule:

April 22 - Interlagos
June 10 - Brasilia
June 24 - Jacarepaguá
July 22 - Curitiba (supporting the FIA WTCC Race of Brazil)
September 23 - Velopark
October 28 - Tarumã (TBC)
November 18 - Londrina
December 2 - Curitiba (double points)

Now, the news:

- The Chevrolet teams will race the Cruze instead of the Astra. Two teams will run the Chevrolets this year: Carlos Alves and Mico's Racing. AMG is out;
- The Honda teams will race the new Civic. Again, two teams: Full Time Sports and Auto Racing;
- The only model from 2011 to stay is the Ford Focus. Amir Nasr Racing will stay, and Bassan Motorsport (misidentified as a second Bassani Racing entry in 2011) will join them;
- Toyota is now officially within the championship. Bassani Racing will stay with two cars, while the other two will be raced by Ricardo Zonta's RZ Racing;
- Mitsubishi is the 5th manufacturer to enter the series. Officer ProGP (former Ford team) and Serra Motorsport (former Honda team) will run the four Mitsubishi Lancer GT's entered.

The field is limited to 20 cars (4 from each manufacturer). Drivers for 8 out of 20 cars were confirmed. Here is the provisional entry list:

Shame they limited the grid to 20 cars.

Any photos of the Mitsubishi?
I only found these photoshops:

As always, I'm only worried about the drivers. If most are ridebuyers, it gets very boring.

Round 1 is on the way!! The championship begins at Interlagos this sunday. Round schedule not released yet, and now the news:

- Mico's Racing is out, and their berth will be occupied by J.Star Racing, currently racing in VICAR's Copa Chevrolet Montana (the Stock Car Brasil second-tier series). Drivers will be Ricardo Sargo (2-time São Paulo State Champion) and Marcelo Tomasoni (raced in the Stock Car Brasil low-tier support series);
- Thiago Marques, who ran a Chevrolet Astra with AMG in 2011, will now run the #1 Corolla in Ricardo Zonta's RZ Motorsport;
- Alceu Feldmann will stay with FullTime Sports and will drive the #7 Honda;

Losing Carbone and Camilo is terrible. So, who would you rank as the top 5 drivers after MaurÃ*cio? Meira, Zonta, Gomes, Feldmann, Marques, Moro?

Round 2 is on the way!! This time, at the Brasilia outer circuit, after an hiatus of one and a half month.

Beginning with some facts:

- Alceu Feldmann was suspended due to doping issues in the last Stock Car round. Fábio Carbone will replace him in the #20 Honda;
- Claudio Caparelli will replace Marcelo Tomasoni at the #57 Cruze;
- Round 3, scheduled for June 24 at Jacarepaguá, was postponed due to the Rio Climate Conference. Now it will be Round 4, and the new date is August 5;
- Despite being born in Brasilia, Vitor Meira never raced before at his home track. This will be his first ever race there.

Tomorrow, Race 3 at 10:25 LT (13:35 GMT) and Race 4 at 13:20 LT (16:20 GMT). Here is the entry list:

Quite surprised to see them 4 sec off the WTCC pace in Curtiba. I always thought they are faster than S2000...

How's the thing with Juliano Moro and André Bragantini Jr.? Are there compulsory pitstops, do do they just lose track time?

Always when there are two drivers per car, each driver runs one race. Don't know how works during the practice sessions.

Last week I watched the first 3 events.
The quality of the grid and racing has improved compared to last year. Of course it is not on the same level as Argentinian TC2000 but it is promishing for the future.

The race at Curitiba had lots of contact. Was the driver of the Chevrolet that hit the Toyota punished?

The Mitsubishi Lancer looks nice.

I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

I've never watched any Brazilian local race. There's too many self-called major championships, so the top drivers are dilluted into them.

Didn't heard nothing about.

And, still need good sources about, but apparently Renault is in and the Fluences are being built.

Good news.

They are built in Brazil? Or are they still rely on Argentinia?
Which engines are used? The Berta 2.2L engine?

The cars use the Berta engine (this year with 300hp) but are built in Brazil by two different companies: JL (built the Chevrolet, the Toyota and the Mitsubishi) and MetalMoro (built the Ford and the Honda). Not sure about who is building the Renaults.

The major championships in Brazil are the Stock Car, Formula Truck, GT Brasil, Top Series (GT split), Copa Petrobras de Marcas and Trofeo Linea. Stock Car obviously is filled with top drivers. Formula Truck attracts factory teams, so I guess most drivers are to notch too. The other three mix some top drivers, regular drivers and amateurs.

Sounds like the inverted Grand-Am approach. Instead of several different manufacturers building one car, we have one manufacturer building several different cars. Maybe the BTCC should inspire itself by that with regards to NGTC.

Correcting my last post:

Yesterday, Nei Tessari published on his blog the first images of the Renault Fluence.
