Lazaro_Milton should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Thanks, yes thinking about it the series higher up the chart should be able to offer lower entry fees, but some clubs average out the entry fees across all the races happening that day/weekend, which seems a bit unfair, as you would basically being subsidising someone elses racing. Good that the chart can be used for different levels of interest.

You are right about events being run on the longer tracks having quiet an impact on the average for the year, but 15 or 20 cars rattling around a long track like Snetterton 300 or Silverstone Arena GP layouts are generally a bit boring for spectators as there’s long waits whilst you wait for the field to come round. Other than Semsec I can’t think of a series/championship which races primarily on short tracks.

It will be interesting to see how the BTCC and British GTs jump up the chart this year since it would seem they're going to have lots more entrys this year.

I haven’t sent it to Motorsport News or Autosport, if they are reading this, they're free to use the info, although they'd probably want to PM me, since there are a few errors in the 2011 to 2012 chart posted here.

You are right about the championships being capped at 100% not really being fair, if I work it out on the complete number of qualifiers this will give a better indication, and also will give a way to differentiate the 100% championships, so I can still compare the figures to 2012, I will add an extra column and include a secondary percentage figure for any championship which has split grids during the year, there’s not many of them, so not too much more work.

Come Monday I will be pluming figures into the new version of the chart, I’ve checked that the 2012 grid capacities are still correct for 2013, the only one that has changed was the historic Silverstone GP layout (D), which is odd because I didn’t think it could be used anymore anyway.

The 'current' Historic Grand Prix circuit constitutes the Arena circuit, but with the Club chicane bypassed as opposed to any previous iterations that used Bridge corner.

As ever, an interesting list. By my reckoning the most successful new series was the BRSCC Mazda Championship. Whilst the BRSCC ran a Mk. 1 championship in 2012, this was merged into the Ma5da Challenge. The BRSCC then started a new championship for Mk 1s (and the Supercup for Mk. IIIs).

Agree, very interesting but a bit surprised to see the 4two Cup as one of the top 5 improves when it only had 3 UK rounds.

i was unsure for the MX5s what series/championships to link from 2012 to 2013, in the end i settled for a straightforward approach; the BRSCC have been involved with an officially sanctioned MX5 mk1 championship in 2012 and 2013, so i put them together, i did miss the name change from Ma5da to Mazda in the list

the MRSCC / Ma5da group continued for a few general / all mks non championship races, so i put this in as a new entry

for the smart 4 two cup, i looks like theres two series, one uk based, one European based, http://smarts4youracing.com/the-4two-cup/

even if its all one series/championship then they still are eligible for the chart; to not be eligible there has to be more non uk rounds, than uk rounds, and its equal, most of the masters racing series/championships weren't eligible for the for this reason (probably shouldn't have been in 2012 chart either)

In short the 2012 competitions (for Mk. 1s, Mk. 3s and MX150Rs) were organised by Ma5da Racing with championship permits being held by the BRSCC as MSA regulations requires that permits are held by recognised clubs. Over last winter there was something of a break down between the parties, with Ma5da ended their relationship with the BRSCC. The BRSCC responded by setting up their own (new) championships.

They are two separate series. I was surprised to see the Smarts improve their position as by my reckoning their average grids were 12.29 in 2012 and 8.14 in 2013.

those figures look about right to me, but the percentages reflect how full the grids where, and the smarts ran their cup within other races

Where a championship runs combined grids with another championship or series, then the event percentage figure used will be worked out from the full number of cars in the race e.g. including cars that are not in that championship. This is because the spectacle for the fans is increased by having a larger grid of cars.

Having seen a number of Smart races in '13, including a Rockingham where some of the Smarts were in excess of 50 seconds a lap slower than the quickest Euro Saloons runners, I'm not convinced that such mergers necessarily add to he spectacle, but I take the point.
