Nicky Hayden
Is the GP bit too high hurdle for him? maybe the GP is okay, but the works team especially the teammate of rossi is too early for him. He could have joined the lesser satellite team first like Hopkins did. If he cannot win, he can blame the bike, but now he got the champion bike, full works support. if he cannot show proper result, he may be sacked next year. hopefully not. This year is a learning year for him. I hope HRC gives him time..

Nicky is by no means doing poorly--right now he is eighth in the championship. Honda picked him for the works ride (over Colin Edwards et.al.) because of his age. I think they expect him to develop as the year progresses and expect him to develop to a higher level at a quicker rate as he does have the full factory support. It is obvious that honda realizes Nicky will not match the performance of his teammate and set scalding times.
As of this movement, he has shown many positive signs; however, if there is not a marked improvement in pace as of next year then they will probably assess the situation. |

IMO Nicky hasn't done too poorly, but I do believe he's been thrown in at the deep-end by Honda and is most likely under pressure to perform immediately.
IMO the best option would have been to keep Rossi and Ukawa at Repsol for this year and put Hayden at Pons or another satellite Honda team. Thereby, Nicky could develop as a rider while not having the same pressure from the head honcho's to perform week in, week out. |

We've seen better performances from youngsters with little knowledge of tracks and the bikes they are riding. It's a shame that bike has to go to waste for the year, if indeed that is all Honda is expecting. Edwards would've been a contender right out of the box.

Edwards would have been a better choice, but Hayden is better off where he is now than if he was with another Honda team. I don't think the pressure would have been any less.

I don't know why people rate Edwards such high. I watched Suzuka 8, and Edwards's time was constantly slower than Katos and Barros. It changed my opinion on him actually. I so wished Barros got works Honda. Edwards would have done better on RCV than Nicky if he rides now, but Nicky is still young and have more potential to get better.

I think he was the wrong man for the works ride. It should've been Kato, he already had a year's experience and was fairly young as well. Sob.
Don't be too harsh on Nicky though, he's not doing much worse than Ukawa did last year if you bear in mind that Tohro was msotly up against 500ccs. The potential is defiantely there. |

Well so he won the AMA superbikes last year on the factory Honda. Yeah - so what? I watched a couple of races and I can't say I was that impressed. But, let's face it, he's on a new type of bike, new team, in Europe where he doesn't know the circuits - etc, etc. Give him half a season to settle in, for crying out loud.

Edwards didn't deserve the bike at all - he didn't deserve to get the title last year, Bayliss was kicking his butt all year long, and he was gifted it when they hamstrung Haga and ruined that season too.
Yeah, I just don't like the guy. And your point is...?
