BTCC At Mallory Park?

That's what's being hoped for by the Mallory bosses according to today's Motorsport News

What carnage would ensue

Add Anglesey to the list. It would be good to see, but it's extremely unlikely to happen with just ten meetings per year *.

* Unless several top circuits ceased to be used for motor racing.

Now there's a thought...is there insider knowledge that's making them think this just might get off the ground???

(thats a tongue in cheek suggestion not an accusation )

i doubt it would happen as there facilities are worse than knockhill, and to host a round knockhill has got to improve their facilities.

Aside from the obvious need to build new pit/paddock facilities is the paddock actually big enough to accomodate the entire TOCA Tour package?

Well, the new pit and paddock facilities are currently being built but for a long time there's been talk of moving it to the outside of the circuit. For BSB the other year they had to use an area outside the circuit (a la Rockingham).

Now the mere thought of that is just frightening!

Can't comment on Mallory, even after living in Leicester I've still never been to that circuit.

Ian I didn't see any evidence of new pit facilities at Mallory on Boxing Day. All I saw was the new race control/offices/hospitality building. Do you know something I don't?

Thanks to you and Justin for the commentary. I couldn't hear any of it so I'll just guess it was superb!!!

What you saw on Boxing Day was "phase one" of the investment. The lower floors will be extended up to the Medical Centre and house a total of 20 garages with front and rear doors etc. Lots of other changes also. Can you imagine going to spectate and seeing nearly all of every lap!
Brilliant.

As for Ian's comentary, I couldn't hear it either!

Ooh that sounds good! When do I get my new pit lane to play in? More importantly where will it be - in the same place or are they moving it?

Of course you couldn't hear Ian's commentary - you were too busy winning your plum puddings! Have you eaten them yet?

Certainly for spectators Mallory is a lot more enticing a prospect than is Donington just up the road, and could probably command a higher attendance. There would be certain trade-offs, however.

Take a look at some of the circuits they use for Ozzie V8s, and I see no reason why Mallory or Cadwell shouldn't be used with a little improvement to the safety barriers. Pit facilities is just an excuse. Frankly it could be just the shot that's needed. Can you imagine BTCC at Mallory? Ooh, yes please!

Donington's one of the better circuits for viewing, but it will never be as good as Mallory from that perspective. Few tracks are.

Never been to Lydden, I'd agree that the current Anglesey is probably up there. Brands Indy is another (obvious) one, as is Rockingham.

Silverstone (any layout apart from Stowe) is dire.

Just picture the corporate hospitality package:

After practise you'll leave by private launch to take lunch on Fantasy Island. This will be followed by a quick drive in an armoured personnel carrier (on the private tank course) before returning to the newly refurbished hospitality suites just in time for racing to recommence!!
