BHF Heartstart Courses

Would you know what to do in a life-threatening emergency? Learning Emergency Life Support (ELS) skills can help you keep someone alive until professional help arrives.

IVMUK is proud to deliver the British Heart Foundation’s Heartstart scheme, which will teach participants skills to deal with assessing an unconscious patient, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), dealing with choking, serious bleeding and helping someone that may be having a heart attack.

The courses are free but donations are asked as this is solely what enables us to keep the course going.

We are pleased to announce that the first three sessions will take place in Grays, Essex, on Wednesday July 25, August 8, and August 22 from 7pm (prompt) until 10pm.

Tea and coffee will be supplied and all donations will be gratefully received.

To book your place on one of the courses, email heartstart.ivmuk@hotmail.co.uk with your name and telephone number. We will then be in contact with further details once places have been allocated.

Hope to see you at one of the courses,

IVMUK steering group.

( Mods can you make this a hot topic please)

Well we have now started to get interest. We have 3 marshals who have signed up so far so thank you. Details will be sent nearer the courses.
Ron1902 understand. If you still want to come and do a course its no prob. Good chance to socialise away from circuit. And you get a badge, cert and a guidance card.
These courses are open to all in motorsport not just marshals and any club.

Hi Richard

These courses are a great idea - thank you for organising them.

Can I just ask - do they count as the First Aid training signature in the new PRC book? This seems to be a requirement, but I am having trouble finding a training day that covers it.

Pretty sure it doesn't. Sure Richard will confirm one way or the other.

I assume you have asked BH if they have a spare venue (when the site is open, trackdays or similar so the gate is manned) The Kentagon or Hailwoods would be a good size wouldn't it?

Just a course numbers update folks:
July 25th we have 3 places left. 8th of August course is now full and the 22nd August we have 4 places left.
So please get booking. Its free and gives you a chance to meet other marshals outside the circuit enviroment.
We are also looking for potential instructors to put on the instructors course later in the year and deliver HS courses and develope them. This will also involve delivering these courses to the public. If this is something you would also be interested in please pm me or email me at heartstart.ivmuk@hotmail.co.uk or if you know my e-mail adress.
Spread the word and get booking,
Thank you.

Glovesman should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I attended the the course last night (25th July) and learned a lot.

This is something that everybody should know, not just for at the track but for life away from the circuit. The course provides simple but essential instruction on how to deal with a life threatening situation.

I found the course to be well run and typical marshal humor was in abundance.

It's also good to meet your fellow marshals away from the track, although following the choking lesson I fear I know Daryl a little to intimately.

Please book yourself on a course when available, you won't regret it.

Thanks Gloveman for the kind comments. (I noticed DB still had a smile after you to got to know each other well!!). Also thanks to everyone who turned up last night through the poor traffic problems on the A13. The IVMUK steering group discussed the course after it finished and we were delighted and proud of how it went and the fact everyone entred into the course with the right frame of mind and added to the humour and made it a very enjoyable evening. So a huge THANK YOU to all of you who turned up. Also thank you for the generous donations. This is important as this is how we pay for the hall and keep the scheme running and make sure you have what you need etc.
We are meeting next week to plan alot more dates and if you would like us to come and run a course in your area please pm me or email on: heartstart.ivmuk@hotmail.co.uk
and we can discuss this.
I know and the IVMUK know we have hit the right note with this and last night proved it. What we need to do now is evolve it. I now have 3 potential instructors so I will be starting to get them involved and developed before we run an instructors course in Nov/ Dec.
Still would like some more.
August the 8th is now full and we have 2 places left for August the 22nd. SO lets get these 2 places booked.
Thank you.

Just a note to say thank you to everyone that turned up last night the their Heartstart course. Another enjoyable course and everyones enthusiasm and input made it a good night.
We will be advertising some more dates soon. Just waiting to hear from the hall we can have the dates we have asked for.
T give a definative answer now for this course. As we are running this outside the motorsport arena to give everyone a skill for life and the community, PRC's will not be signed. The new FMOS course( all still to be finalised) will cover the first aid section in the books and all being well will be ready for 2013 training.
So please book, we have some more places for the 22nd August. Thanks again everyone.
Richard Sneader, Martyn Dolton, Alex Smith.
