Clive Brown should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
.... and I have a feeling Cutting's second Maguire ( his first having gone to Pat and thence to Paul Gardner ) went to John Pugsley !

I purchased an ex Brain Cutting car back in Jan 98 was owned by Pierre Servais from Belgium the car was blue when raced by Brian in the 86 championship. owned after by Paul Gardner then yellow/black and finally by Martin Brockhouse?now red.But Paul sold the car to Pierre.

Have a letter from Paul Gardner June 91 selling the car also saying Maguire built spaceframes from 1981-86 my car is one of the last two made.

I think Brian had 3 Maguires the second being a round tube car that i think a chap by the name of HEINZ is rebuilding after talking to him (or trying to) at IMP national 07 at Paddock Wood he also had a Davrian IMP he was selling which Colin Rooney knows about..

Please note this is only from memory i could be wrong.

A third Cutting Maguire ? Now that is news to me ! I can certainly remember what I thought was the second car ; it was light blue , and made its debut at Silverstone in the opening round of the Wendy Wools one year . Perhaps I was mistaken , and it was that car that went to Paul Gardner - but in that case where did John Pugsley's car come from .

Just out of interest , I believe the last Maguire Stiletto made was for DNA Racing of Burnley , and was raced by Tony Bridge .

Time for a Maguire Imp/Stiletto thread , perhaps ?

Yes it does seem we have hijacked this thread sorry Andy.

Also thought Earling Jensen owned a Cutting car.

maybe that is the Pugsley car as well all same area

Clive the problem with Maguire thread is cars not really have chassis numbers and its memory of who had what car that will start the list/rows!

My father had the 1st Maguire Imp sold
It was ex george coghill car then to Mike hands 1 legged? sprinter hillclimber had hand operated clutch on gear lever

Cutting had the 1st Stilleto

Is Mike Hands related to Roland Hands ?

The very first Maguire Imp was I believe the 'works' car which Tom Sheppard drove ; that apparently does have a chassis plate with his name on it . This car now has an 1150 and Mk.9 Hewland , and does hillclimbs in Northern Ireland . It's current owner got it from a guy in Forfar called Angus Robertson , who apparently in turn acquire it from the late Ray Payne's son , Robert . Now , does anyone know who had the car in between ?

Maguire Stiletto

Been up in the attic(xmas stuff!)came accross a pile of old CCC magazines.Jan 92' has an article on a Maguire Stiletto belonging to Rod MacLeod, before it was owned by Harry Simpson,Fredrick Knutsen and Firstly David Enderby. The chassis has a plate DE2 seems this car was to replace DE1 which was totaled at Thruxton,Brian Cutting and Pat Mannion's names were mentioned as the story unfolds.

I well remember DE1 ( AKA Pig 1 ) and DE2 , having worked on and built the motors for both ! DE1 was a saloon , whereas as you correctly state , DE2 was a Stiletto .

The original Tom Sheppard car is a saloon chassis , rather than a fastback .

I remember this programme
would love a copy on VHS or DVD if anyone has it, willing to pay costs.

Motoring News done a one page article on Bowlby's car years ago

I always thought there was only this one in existence

Was it a documentary or the early 1980s 'Driving Ambition' TV drama series which featured the Wendy Wools championship protagonists and their cars ?

No, it was a tv drama on Beeb 1.

We've mentioned somewhere earlier on one of these special saloon threads i'm sure?

Tony Davies' Firenza was driven by 'Alan Hershner' (actor is Gavin someone or other who was Terry in East Enders! later on) and Peter Baldwin's Mini was driven by 'Donna Hewitt'. Can't recall the actresses name though.

The Ben Bowlby programme was part of a series called ' Equinox ' , which was a sort of Channel Four equivalent of ' Horizon ' .

The BBC Drama series starred Nicky Henson ( not Gavin Henson , he's the Taff rugby player ! ) as the villainous Alan Hershner , and Peter Baldwin as Donna Kebab .

Probably so .... the Clubman's car came 'twixt the Suzuki and his career at Lola .

Both Marshall & Fraser and David Enderby bought and ran Bowlby Mk. IIs , and neither were able to eradicate the predominant handling characteristic of the chassis , which was a tendency to exhibit a vicious snap oversteer condition in long high-speed corners .

On balance , it was probably therefore fortuitous that Ben's chosen career path lay in designing race cars , rather than civil airliners .

I tend to the view that if the Marshall and Fraser clan couldn't sort a car , then it was unsortable !
