Looks like a Fiat 124 Coupe to me. (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_124_Coup%C3%A9).
Used to be quite fast as they didn't weigh a lot due to having rusted away to nothing!
(The 124 Saloon was what we older chaps remember the Lada becoming Al).

Mostyn was a great guy, it used to be a standing joke that Mostyns pre season preparation for his car was to drag it out of the chicken shed, blow up the tyres and was the chicken ****e off it.

Mostyn has assured me that the Firenza will be rolled out the chicken shed in 2010, not sure if prep will stretch to washing the chicken sh** off

Sounds like a candidate to come out with me in Post Historic Touring Cars, we can take up where we left off many years ago!

Yes the very same, I had sponsorship from Swan Lite Lager then. ran it in the Uniroyal/Monroe Production Saloons in '89' won the round at Mallory.
Ran the car in the 'Mod-Prods' in 1990 and won Class it, (picking up a fair bit of 'Vauxhall' Bonus money on the way---Those were the days often coming away with a profit on the odd race! ) Craig Davies in a Sunbeam Lotus finished 2nd behind me that season.
Then went Bankcrupt in 91....so no racing again till 2002 then back to a Sunbeam Lotus where I started!.... just prefer RWD.

Yep there was some money on offer back then Joss wasnt there and I made sure all the sponsor money (after BARC and MSA had taken their cut) went to the drivers, IMO how it should be. I mean we were required to use the tyres so it was only fair we benifitted from it. Is that Alan?

If a remember correctly back then Vauxhall used to pay £250 for a class win per race and the local Vauxhall dealer paid the same and £500 for an outright win, and a £1000 for class championship. Also it was a £1000 In the production saloons for a class win. Back in 1989 I won £1500 for 15 laps of Mallory in that Astra..£100 a lap, ...shame its not like that now!

Plus £125 (was it?) from our pot and a bit of start money, even without the Vauxhall money it was possible to cover your entry and gas money, where did it all go wrong?

Its a Fiat 124 Sport CC model, 1973 - 1976. 2 door coupe version of the Fiat 124 (not a body style used by Lada). Came with choice of 1600 or 1800cc twin cam as standard. I had one back in 1976 at the grand old age of 17, learned all about opposite lock very early on as more tail happy than any BMW ever was

I remember you way back in the sunbeam when I first started helping the guys with the lancers. The sunbeams and Rays Ascona alway sounded much better than the turbo cars ever did.

Hi Tel
I hope you are well my friend, no doubt our paths with cross again soon at some MLR event or some wind swept paddock! I still have a pic of "ol red" taken at cadwell.

Edited to add.
There are a couple of super road saloon drivers in that pic, Dave stimpsom, Jeffs partner Lynda is there, they guy in the red jacket on the right used to drive a sunbeam I think but I cant remember his name. The chap with his back to the camera is Piff (i think) Alans mechanic. I havent a clue who the guy is on the far left of the pic leaning against Joes merc.

Sean

Sean: I haven't had anything to do with the MLR for 4 years now.

It's all very different without some of us good ole boys there.

Hello boys, been a long time!

Yeah, thats me in the dodgy denim. Piff, in the long coat, my long time tortured mate & mechanic now lives in France, still trying to get over the mental damage inflicted by trying to look after a car with so much competitive promise and yet so unreliable! Joe Macari's dress sense is a little better but he's still as open and likeable (in my opinion) running joemacari.com...

And yeah, all these years on, I still cant help farting around with old Lancers Turbos, despite what I might be running as a road car!

Hi Alan,

I do hope you have that ol' "Kermit Green" Lancer.

Even though I have "GM" through me like a stick of rock, I'd snatch an early Lancer if one turned up at the right price.

It was a shame that the rule meddlers ruined SRS, but they managed to kill plenty of other championships back in the 90's.

Rob.

Hi Rob, I'm afraid that old Green Lancer ended its days embedded into the front of a truck on some narrow Suffolk backroad! (Not by me however!).

And nice to see you are still around Alan. Last time we met must have been 15 odd years ago? (although if I remember rightly I was bizarrely driving a rubbishy Ren 5 Turbo with no clutch!). Hopefully met up soon when I finally get a race car finished!!
