Engine change rules
Stupid question time.
Heard on the telly references to maximum engine changes at 4. How does this work?? Is it a case of you can only have 4 engine changes during the 20 races?, you can only use 4 diff engines ( so if you remove engine 'a' and fit engine 'b', then fix engine 'a' at a later date it doesnt count as a new engine ), or you can only change 4 engines during a race weekend and as many as you like in between?? Every engine is sealed before use. Once you break the seal it counts as an engine change.
To take your example if you remove engine A, fit engine B then repair/rebuild engine A and re-fit it that counts as 2 changes. Depending on the amount of damage that is exactly what most teams do as it's far cheaper to rebuild than buy a whole new block. The 4 engines count across the entire season, regardless of when they are changed. |

preety sure that the driver gets 5 points deducted for each engine changed extra. which is why Hyla Breeze ended up on minus points.

I thought that this year it was only the Team that lost points especaily after those minus points scores last year.

Pretty sure it could be manufacturers as well to teams. 5 points for every engine over the limit, MG have already lost 5 points because of going over the limit with Colin Turkington (i think).

This year it's just Teams' and Manufacturers' points which are deducted.
The 5th and 6th engines will cost you 5 points. The 7th engine costs 10 points. 8th and more cost 15 points each |
