Whell done Lobell . Did you catch a ccccold ol uat?

Less seriously, if possible, we have no news of our new american friend yet. You must remember his wife was driving a Jeep and damaging the house and garage each time she had to park or leave the house.
May be he was standing in the garage giving her instructions when maneuvering? If I'm right his nickname might be "pizza" by now!

I see that one of the development cars for the new Alpine A110 has caught fire and been destroyed in only 4 minutes whilst on loan to Top Gear.

Should I cancel my order (or at least my thoughts of placing an order. Not much chance of it being a "premium" investment now?)

I’d cancel my subscription to Prime. And fit a plumbed in FIA extinguisher. Oh, hang on, they’re crap.....

The Alpine is aluminium, so there must have a ‘catastrophe’ of some sort!

How the heck can you consider buying french cr… sorry, car? The Cayman is cheaper. Having not tested the Alpine, can't say whether its better or not. May be the Renault is aluminium but it looks very much plastic! If its for investment, better buy the real thing, even a 1300 G makes money and will increase. And they are pleasant to use on B roads. Potholes or not!

According to the report I read an engine management light came on part way through a closed stage used for filming.

So they stopped, someone noticed flames under the car, so they got out and 4 mins later the car was gone.

It may have been a development car but in reality that does sound a little dramatic. If things happened as reported.

I would sort of agree Gerard but this new one has been getting some really good first reviews and I wondered whether it might prove popular enough to be able to buy, enjoy for a short while and sell on at no loss or even a small profit.

However I understand that the first batch, with an especially interesting specification (to offset the probably first batch problems?) is sold out.

I wonder if it will stay sold out?

According to most journalists that have driven the Alpine and Cayman, the reasons for buying the latter are.... Badge snobbery! I’d add reliability to that as the new car is unproven, and perhaps practicality as more luggage space, but from all I’ve read the ‘young pretender’ drives and rides extremely well.

I would imagine this was all the fault of the three hapless buffoons who present the programme. (Have I ever given the impression that I wasn't a fan of this lot before?)

Chris Harris driving, Eddie Jordan as passenger.

Alpine (Renault) described it as a 'technical incident'.

Chris is a handy peddler, and usually mechanically sympathetic (witness his drives in historics). Maybe different when doing TG! As for the other bloke

Probably all of the hot air coming out of EJ's moth caused something to burst into flames!

May be the new address for this car is something like: "Ash tag Alpine"!

Grant, are you kidding me here??? Make profit with a french car. Serious? What else? The last brand new french car I bought was a Pug 207 from the very last series for my girl friend. I remember I told her that we have to support our industry. What a moron! Even the parking warning doesn't work properly. It blips when it shouldn't and doesn't when it should. And so on. What a piece of sh..! I've rather buy a third hand Bimmer than any new Pug.
Aluminium for the A? May be they can borrow some material from the next door sardine canning factory when it runs out of fish!!

Yes it is… Remember when the race version of the 5 Turbo use to break its conrods, "le service communication" liked to say it was a worn out spark plug! Not a lie cose when a rod breaks, very often the piston hits the plug. Now they are retired, some engineers become name tellers. At last we can talk!

I see that the Alpine was driving a stage of the Monte Carlo Rally at competitive speed when the incident happened, and both in the car were fully suited and booted, which was very wise....
