What's about Valencia GP2 Date???
Aside the great effort of the European GP at Valencia, the GP2 race on that place wasn't unsure.
At first, it was expected to be with the street circuit, but later was demoted to the Ricardo Tormo autodrome. Was an attempt for next May 31st-June 1st for the two race weekends, but the website of the Circuit of Valencia erased all reference about it. Then, what happens with the Valencia GP2 venue? Could it be raced, or is on the verge to be cancelled??? Important question to ask days before the beggining of 2008 GP2 Series season. Last edited by Mekola; 20 Apr 2008 at 02:57. Apparently GP2 will race on the Valencia street course. If so, and if GP2 has 2 races at both Monaco (as has been rumoured) and Valencia, that will bring the total number of races for the season to 20. |

All is not as it seems with the Valencia race, from what I've read...
Seems GP2 WAS originally planning two races, but Valencia decided it didn't need to double up on the expense... http://www.gpweek.com : Page 9 |

I don't think I'll be the only person happy not to go back to Tormo.

I have good memories of Tormo, but not from the racing! Don't think the track is really suited to single seaters so it's not a great loss for GP2, especially as the street circuit should more than make up for it.
Also last year there hardly seemed to be any crowd at Valencia. The article in GP Week also seems to suggest there may be a replacement round in order to fulfill the contract of X amount of races. |

Tormo was too small for GP2, and yet it swamped Spanish F3: you'd have thought that WSR should have been good there, but I seem to remember seeing a race on TV from there and it was dull dull dull.

Valencia is a bit too tight and twisty even for MotoGPs. Awesome place to drive a lap, rrrrrrrubbish races.

There was a Spanish GT race supporting the GP2 at Valencia last year which was reasonably good.

It didnt make sense last year to hold the finale in front of hardly any spectators. (well it looked empty)
Im really glad they are using the street circuit instead |
