muscle cars
Which, if any, V8 coupes do you like? Not just US cars, V8s from other countries are fine. I like anything AMC related.

Of the classic US muscle cars it has to be the Charger 500 for me. Nothing to do with Dukes of Hazzard honest!
There's some great stuff out there now too, the Monaro and new Mustang especially. On the European side, one of my favourite V8 GT/coupés is the Porsche 928 - big block grunt coupled with German engineering and Porsche dynamics. Last edited by garcon; 7 Jan 2005 at 10:47. |

That Torana is a nice looking car, it reminds me of the AMC Hornet in some ways. Yes, Rebel Machine can't be left out. Also out of left field the Mustang II Monroe Handler looked cool.

The Rebel surely is one of the rarest muscle cars of them all, but I must admit, I've never really grown on those smaller Mustangs

What I really wanted was
... but finding one thats not worn out, thats not a close friend of the rustmonster or actually runs well is almost impossible I can remember as a child on holiday at Port Macquarie... an X19 with a young couple aboard... the lady was gorgeous (hence my memory is good ) and they packed a fold up tent and all the required camping paraphernalia into this little tiny Fiat... It had a sports exhaust on it.. sounded just like a Ferrari.. or so I thought back then... with alloy wheels, and Pirelli P7s aboard... a little different to the family Kingswood at the time... |

Muscle Carz
Sorry and X19 is a hardressers car!!!!!!!
For brute looks and go the Ford Mustang 302 Fastback. Modern stuff is usually made too 'safe' by all those electric gizmos but the Holden/Vauxhall Morano is the business. Howvere my all time favourite is..... Baby Bertha |

I've removed the 'IMG' tag from some of the links so the pics can still be linked to but don't cause a problem to anyone on dial-up who doesn't want to wait for the pics to load up each time...
See the FAQ for guidlines re posting pics. Thanks. Last edited by Bluebottle; 9 Jan 2005 at 15:49. |

Much appreciated, thanks.
It's not a V8, but I do rather like the Nissan 350Z. Most of the ones I have seen in the past have been in rather naff colours, but lately my local dealer has had a gun metal version with the optional extra wheels and it does look the biz! I feel the need for a test drive coming up! |

I can still remember the TV advert for the Triumph Stag V8 where the salesman is played by Frank Thornton (TV's "Are You Being Served" Capt. Peacock ). Really funny advert where a guy runs out of a house wearing a bedsheet (the wife's husband just came home) and he stumbles into a BL Triumph car dealership, as you do. The salesman and bedsheet man test drive a Triumph Dolomite and the angry husband starts chasing them in a red Stag, then the salesman says "Oh that's our Triumph Stag model, lots of punch!"

I would say the very early Firebirds also don't get the attention they deserve. The 67s/68s get overlooked with all the attention given to the Camaro and Chevelle. Also emphasis is placed on the Trans Am, but the plainer Ram Air 400s were pretty good. Not the most horsepower, but a lot of torque. Like a diesel with attitude.

Interesting - the ultimate Australian muscle car is arguably the Torana A9-X (photos on previous page) in that it was the biggest motor in the smallest mas produced car.
For non mass produced cars how about a Bowell Nagari. |

How about the 1970 Ford Torino King Cobra? Designed to take on the winged Daytona Charger in NASCAR before a rulebook change saw such cars get sidelined, isn't that always the way?

My brother says he wants a new car with a V8, manual gearbox, and rear-wheel drive for his next car. Well he lives in Calgary and we thought about it for an hour last night and there is nothing like that for under $60,000. GM killed the Camaro and Chrysler doesn't seem to want to offer a manual transmission. I guess he could buy a Mustang, but he's not a big Ford fan. Any ideas?
