Johnny Herbert joins ALMS!

Press release just issued:

Quote:
EX-FORMULA ONE STAR JOHNNY HERBERT JOINS ALMS; WILL DRIVE FOR CHAMPION
RACING AT SEARS POINT

INDIANAPOLIS (July 13, 2001) -- British racing star Johnny Herbert, a
former winner in Formula One competition, has joined the elite field of
racing talent for the American Le Mans Series The X-Factor Grand Prix of
Sonoma at California's Sears Point Raceway on Sunday, July 22.
Herbert has been named to drive the Champion Racing Audi R8 in the event,
teamed with fellow Englishman Andy Wallace in the two-hour, 45-minute sports
car race. Champion Racing, owned by Florida Audi and Porsche dealer Dave
Maraj, was the first private racing team to receive one of the dominating
Audi R8 Prototypes for use in competition.
Herbert, who has three Formula One wins to his credit, drove for the
Champion team last month in the 24 Hours of Le Mans but has never competed
in an American Le Mans Series race. He took two F1 wins for the Benetton
team in 1995, then scored his third win for the Stewart team. He also won
the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991 for Mazda.
Though now retired from F1 competition, Herbert is a testing and
development driver for the Arrows team and has plans for competing in CART
events.
In making the announcement, Champion Racing Vice-President Don Skuta said
that the team hopes to have Herbert as its co-driver with Wallace for the
remaining American Le Mans Series races this season.
The X-Factor Grand Prix of Sonoma will get the green flag at 12 noon (PDT)
on Sunday, July 22. Ticket information is available online at
www.searspoint.com or by calling the raceway ticket office at
1-800-870-7223. Race sponsor The X-Factor is a new line of prepaid cellular
phone products being launched in Northern California in conjunction with the
event.
The race will be televised live in the United States by NBC Sports
beginning at 4 p.m. (EDT), with highlights to be shown the following week on
Eurosport. The race broadcast by the ALMS Radio Web can be heard online at
www.americanlemans.com.
Go Johnny, Go!

Best of luck lads.

Glad to see a couple of Brits sharing a car. as the winners are now obvious why don't you yankie's throw in the towel now to save embarrasment later. I just hate seeing grown men cry
