Sorry all. RoyS was discussing the date for the 24 Hours and supplied the link to the EERC regs for 2008. I read them and then pointed out that one of the other proposed dates clashes with the GP.

Slightly more concerned at the prospect of a 24 hour race followed by a 6 hour race, but that's obviously not going to happen. Is it???

At the moment, this looks on this year. Not clashing with Shelsley, just need to know my drama dates and I could be able to play. Woohoo.

No you are not confused ... the 24 hour date acording to the regs posted earlier is also the 13th/14th...

It will be of interest to find out who gets the date... James Tucker or the ACO.

Just had a look at some of the other dates around that time and notice that the FIAGT are running on the 14th.. so now get the feeling that the 24 hour will be 20th/21st as first published... maybe Mr Peat could get us up to date by asking questions...

The Britcar 24 hrs is on the weekend of the 21st, the same weekend as the Goodwood Revival. The final BTCC meeting, at Brands has been moved from the 21st to the weekend of the 14th.
Another 24hr race for your diaries. The 2CV 24hrs at Snetterton will be held next year on August Bank Holiday weekend, so we MAY get some decent weather

I have been asking for you Roy and it seems that Silverstone have had several clubs after the 24hr dates on the 11th to 14th including SRO,FIA and BSB as well as us so the date seems likely to move back to the original date although this has not yet been confirmed. Slightly of topic the Rockingham round is likely to move to 1 week later after we pointed out the clash with that little clubbie at Silverstone and the fact the A 43 would be closed.

or
BritCar 24 Hrs with meals provided, goodie bags, generally being looked after over the weekend including access to the Pits and an overall friendly feeling?

Seriously, folks, I would never plug a meeting if I didn't think it worthwhile - hence the above, because after 15+ years, I'm afraid FIA says what it stands for, if you apply some imagination! - whereas after two years at the 24 hours, the standards have continued, and they were great to start off with.

Anyone wondering about doing "24 hours" remember - you don't do the full 24 hrs, and the more bodies, the better the shift system on a post - so, even if you can only do a day, or a few hours, it is time that someone else can get some sleep!

I did both Le Mans and Silverstone this year and I can't honestly say which one was better!

Totally agree with you Shelagh.

After doing my first 24 hours this year, it must be 'the meeting' to do especially from the pits. The atmosphere was great and not to be missed. The only downside was the diner, hopefully that will get sorted next year.

No Dutch supercars (which will have a class for Moslers next year), what a shame. They provided some good racing. But on the other hand, I love Group C cars. Whatever the support races, I'll be there.

Well the support races certainly look interesting, in fact even better than what we've had before.

Group C's - after my experience at the Classic (one in at 160mph at my feet) I would be happy to do Assembly (surely there's a speed limit?).

The rest - definitely "interesting" and appear to be well worth it.

Remember - you don't have to volunteer for the whole of the race meeting, just the bits you can do. So, if you only want to experience the support races then only volunteer for Friday/Saturday. Otherwise, just volunteer for the bits you can do over the whole weekend/24 hrs itself, so you can relieve other folk and still enjoy the overall experience.

Bill has just reminded me that, if information is correct, this Sunday is when we get to see what coverage Top Gear will produce to cover 20 minutes when we know they were there for the full 24 hrs plus! Worth staying in for? - let's wait and see.................

a couple of things i think we need to sort for next year, lets get a proper gathering on the thursday or friday night instead of the improtue one this year (which apart from tony's bloody mining lights was a great laugh, especially paul's deck chair aerobics) maybe as paul newns as already stated could do a curry night. if possible, this is selfish if we can get enough marshals oulton could run two or three posts on its own for the weekend (hopefully around brooklands as that was an awesome post this year) an finally, lets ALL CONVINCE MORE MARSHALLS TO COME, i was convincved to give it a shot two years ago as a one off, i got two or three guys this year and everyoene who does this event absolutly adores the event even with prior concerns, it may lose some of its charm with just 4 or 5 guys and girls doing the post for 2 and 1/2 days, no sleep and complete exhaustion but it means you can all have a good sleep inbetween and harass teams and driver in the pits more often.

on the support side, i feel the dutch guys are a big loss, trying to get in there hot tub in paddock at 3 in the morning and being given all the relentless you can drink for free is enough to miss but there friendliness and fun attitude is amazing! on the other side that line up is a cracking one and should make anyones weekend on its own but on top of that the 24hr and it should be a weekend to remember. Bring it on i say!

it looks as if top gear will show it on the 9th of december and the actual 24 hr highlights are on skysports a couple of times the week before.

Found quite a good way to protect oneself from the elements last year.

Some of us went to collect a gazebo from race control and instead of putting it up fully–so that the wind whistled right through and only offered protection from rain from dead above–we tried it with only using half the legs for one side, so that it created a sort of lean-to.

This had the benefit of making it like a small tent, which kept it a bit warmer, and you could set up your seat, stove, bbq in there - and at a push I'm sure you could sleep/shelter under it as well if the weather got bad, with less chance of it being blown away.

ps - there was nothing wrong with my miner's light, I just think some people must be overly sensitive to 100w lamps!
