Not familiar with this series, am I right in thinking that they are similar to the old Super Tourers or am I deluded!

Nothing to do with Super Touring. Don't know the exact technical rules. TC2000 is a bit slower as WTCC (around 1 to 2 seconds).

On the engine side there's lots of involvement of European tuners:
Sodemo: Toyota and Renault
Neil Brown: Honda
Spiess: Chevrolet

Look for races at the Autódromo Eduardo Copello "El Zonda" in San Juan - it's a beautiful track and the 2008 or 2009 race (can't remember which) was simply insane.

It's a great series.

Just checked it out on You Tube, looks pretty good. Proper racing on proper tracks unlike the bore fest from Bahrain I wasted 2 hours watching this afternoon. Looks a bit quicker than the BTCC/WTCC, shall be keeping an eye it. Cheers

I knew there were plans for a spec engine but didn't know it's already in use.

Pechito López said that the Chevrolet WTCC works team has offered him to take part of "a couple of races" this year. However, "to race touring cars I rather stay in Argentina". If he does, he wants to do the three top series: TC (Haz Racing Team, Chevy coupé), TC2000 (Honda) and Top Race (AS Racing, could be any brand).

The Berta "Jaguar" is the 3 liter 355HP V6 spec engine used in TRV6 series.

TC2000 uses Ford/Mazda 2 Liter and 4 bangers Duratecs. I doubt they reach more than 320HP, according to the data I have got they rev 1000rpm less than the "expensive" 2008 engines, that where arround 340HP. Yeap, still impressive for FWD cars.

Sadly all the factory teams like Honda, Toyota, Chevrolet, Renault, Fiat and Peugeot will use... A FORD ENGINE!!!!!

That is the thing I still cant get from TC2000

BTW, last year I have worked in a couple of TC2000 races as data eng, for a privateer team. Can post some nice pics if somebody wants to.

Pechito López was unbeatable today. Each time the safety car got into the pits, he made a big gap in seconds.

Five series raced this weekend: Uruguayan Superescarabajos (old Beetles), Turismo Libre (mainly 1980s Gols, Unos and Escorts) and Superturismo (not Supertouring cars, more like sub-Superproduction - 207 Compact, Clio, Gol), plus the Argentinian Copa Fiat L�*nea (for rich driver-wannabes, like Fiat Argentina's president) and finally the TC2000.

I took loads of pictures - as soon as I find time and batteries, I'll post links here.

Just watched the race. Impressive race of López. Because of the USF1 drama I imagine he's still frustrated and angry and had not much time to preparate. There were several safety cars and at the restarts every time he managed to create a gap with the rest.

I still hope he will do 1 or 2 WTCC events.
