Proposed Changes to Flag Regs

Does anyone know when the MSA will make a decision about the changes to the flag regs for next year? If they have already made the decision, where can I find the up-to-date regs?

MSA Proposed Regulation Change May 2013: (Q) 15.3. Yellow/Black Quartered flag - withdrawn (as noted in the update from the MSC in the MSA News in September)

MSA Proposed Regulation Change May 2013: (Q)15.1 & (Q)15.1.1 - "Yellow flags" - not seen anything official on this but I believe it to have died quietly.

Of course we could all get a shock when the BB comes out .... in which case it will cause a flurry of activity for Flag sessions at training days

Hopefully this was beaten to death during the consultation phase.

Which is why I was asking the question. It takes time to rewrite presentations.

Just got the latest MSA News - no mention of any flag changes in the Rule Changes that came with it.

Sighs of relief all round!

Interesting that on p9 of the MSA News the dropping of the Battenberg proposal and the implementation of the new endurance race regs get specific mentions...but not a word about the yellow flagging nonsense which was contained in the same consultation document.

And I see the 2014 Blue Book is now out and still contains the original stationary then waved yellow. Perhaps that consultation idea is actually working .

Why do you think there are so many leaked documents about government proposals? So that they can gather opinions and drop those that don't work/aren't popular.

So our governing body did the same. Good. At least they offered the chance of people being able to speak up, rather than being dictated to.

I also noticed there was no mention of the changes to flagging for next year. However, I still stick to the thought of the green flag being waved after the incident to make it more visible and keep the yellows the same with the stationary being moved/aggitated up and down...

I spoke to someone at the weekend who told me that the proposed changes to yellow flags aren't dead yet. Stunned, perhaps, but not dead.

That may explain the lack of mention in the recent news.

Hopefully they'll keep thinking about it until the season starts, and then come and spend a day with a flaggie to find out what really happens.

But this is the MSA we're talking about so if they do turn up it will be to F1 or BTCC or some other meeting with dozens of marshals on every post.

There's very little chance of them turning up at the sort of clubbie where a couple of us are trying to do all the jobs needed. There will be me with a couple of cars in the wall, a flag in one hand, the phone/radio in the other, a report to write, a look of mild panic and really not needing any more flags to wave .

Oh, crap. And it's too late now to grow the extra arm. Anyway, I've had new overalls which only have the two.

Along with a certain hillclimb club who've gone their own way on red flags (due to a misinterpretation of the meaning of said flag), I find myself wondering why these decisions are left in the hands of people who don't have to operate them.

there is nothing to discus, the new regulations are there in red and white, so we have to work with them.

what the MSA should do is in every bit of paper, newsletter, e-mail is tell the competitors about this change.

I will be putting this out in every CSCC newsletter and SRs, Finals, briefing notes I have for the rest of 2014.

also remind marshals in final instructions sent out with tickets as not all marshals will do training every year.

Indeed. To make matters worse, unless Motorsport Ireland adopt the same rules we'll have a situation on the island where at one circuit it's stationary/waved yellow and at the other circuit it's waved yellow/double waved yellow.
