EuropaBambaataa should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I don't see any point in European teams going over to America to race at Daytona. Even the GT class doesn't quite match any European regulations, although I suppose some GT3/GT4 cars could be eligible. However, given the cost of taking a team there (car, team members and spare parts), any European driver wanting to take part in the race could simply rent a ride in an American team.

Or any European team wishing to participate could simply rent an eligible car.

Teams have bought and prepared 996s or 997s for the Daytona 24 hour, only to sell the car after the race.

That sir is an interesting question. I imagine it has happened but simply renting a car from an existing team seems far more likely in my mind.

Renting cars out for Europeans does in fact happen: Mike Newton will drive Cheevers 2nd Fabcar in the Rolex24 with RML-codriver Tommy Erdos.

Looks like Corvette's Johnny O' Connell will be driving for Riley-Mathews in the Rolex 24 along with Goosens, Hunter-Reay and Matthews himself. This will be O' Connell's first drive in a DP.

Nice to have some live coverage of the race, just a shame it has to be Eurosport.

Well it is hardly great is it. Hardly 24 Hour coverage at its best. Less than eight hours. This just goes to show how spoiled we are by Motors TV in the month of June...

Still, it is better than a kick up the arse I suppose. Does anyone know of any tennis/volleyball/bowls tournaments running on the same date that may lead to a reduction in coverage?

It better be Haven and Leslie commentating too or I will propel my foot through the television screen.

Former SWC team Autohaus Motorsports will be entering a P&M GXP-R with drivers Lawson Aschenbach and Tim Lewis, Jr. for the 08 GARRA GT season.
For the 24 At Daytona Autohaus will add the two veteran drivers Craig Stanton and Max Papis.

Is it just me or does this car look like it belongs more in the BTCC than in a GT Championship? Seriously, it doesent look good to me.

Ah, for those in the States the TV coverage has been announced. Seventeen combined hours on SPEED and Fox, 15.5 hours on SPEED in one eight-hour block and another 7.5-hour block, and with the first 90 minutes on Fox. Although the PR says "FOX Sports", that's sports carried on Fox, not Fox Sports Net. Again, that's just your ordinary Fox channel not FSN. Beatings for anyone complaining they don't get FSN and are going to miss the first hour of the race. The Fox coverage will also be shown on a 1,400 sqaure foot screen in Times Square. NYC emergency medical services to be alerted to possibility of increased incidents of attempted suicide and self-inflicted eye-gouging.

SpeedTV.com is also reported to be supplying additional content (reports, blogs, photo galleries, etc.) online during the event.

It's a fair point that. I must admit to being a bit taken aback at the Pontiac picture, but when you look at it it isn't that bad really. It all makes sense now.

OT: I always thought that the Grand Am prep 2 rules would be nice for DTM...

OTOH: I've always been against the strict separation of touring and sportscars, so I have no problem with the Pontiac.

It's actually Aim Autosport

The car's running a Ford powerplant this year, and the initial cost would probably be as expensive as a GT2 car, but I'd think the seasonal budget would probably be the same if one were to do a ALMS season WITHOUT doing LeMans 24.

Grand Am is actually pretty strict on the testing policy, which helps keep the costs down. (and their tyre policy is also quite restrictive)

Urgh, not so great coverage. Wonder how many hours we'll actually get to see when they cut out all the ads and interuptions when they have to cut to an important bowling match somewhere

Still, I'll be tuning in to cheer on the #01

Not a whole bunch of detail in the pics, but there does seem to be quite a bit of difference in the Lola at least.
