Is the MkIII just a completely outdated chassis then? Teams are running Elan engines and not doing anything good with them. Is it the team, the engine, or the chassis?
Jim Mathews did quite well with the Elan MkIIIc, why not just do that, get Magnessun and Brabbham back and go kick some audi butt? |

problem is, after the autocon car crashed, i think there is only 1-2 cars left and both are owned by intersport i believe. could be a good option but i dont even know if field is even selling them (why he wouldnt is beyond me... he doesnt use em) and i think that panoz would get a better deal with the courage c60 in regards to spares, price, support as well as options for the future with the new courage lmp1

A Courage/Panoz (or whatever you want to call it) would be a welcome addition to the ALMS

Just simply call it a Panoz Courage Elan Ford !
or perhaps (alphabetically...) Courage Elan Ford Panoz or perhaps ... |

Well interesting.
But, Courage doesn't know yet what the new LMP1 will be like (open or closed). The C60 as it is can't have the Elan engine. We analyzed this already in 2000. And yes Elan or Yates, it's all the same block but when JMR changed from Elan, it had all to do with more power and also reliability. |

Stepping away from the nomenclature squabble for a moment, how well is a Courage, designed for La Sarthe, likely to perform on North American tracks?

Well the Miracle motorsports C65 has been pretty fast so far hasnt it, especially when u consider how little testing time the team has had with the car, and considering how the drivers in the car are amatuer/semi pro - not top line professionals. Courage isnt designing cars purely for Le mans anymore, cars like the C65's we have seen in the LMES for example have been very fast at all the tracks the series has visited, outqualifying some of the LMP 1 machines on ocassion.

Yes, getting back to the topic at hand.
Is the (insert what you want here) 6.0 V8 capable of being a fully stressed member of the chassis like the Judd? |

Good question, GT1...
also, from other threads, Fab reported that the Courage LMP1 will be a hybrid built off of the C60.... |

This was confirmed on lmsr.net also Tim. The '05 Courage wont be a new design, but a hybrid C60.

The Chrysler-Mopar Caldwell V8 used in the Dallara LMP2001 was fully-stressed. Dallara themselves had to help for the redesign of the castings... It was then available as a customer unit, but nobody ever asked for it.

the miracle car has also been slowed by the yokohomas it is running, as apposed to the michelins that the other courages in the LMES run. i dont doubt that yokohoma can make a better tire for the car in 2005, but i doubt the miracle cars will ever be as fast as their michelin-shod LMES counterparts

Cant Miracle switch to Michelins for 2005 though? Would seem like the obvious choice IMO. The Michelin tyres are worth what, 1-1.5 secs a lap?

i dont think running the michelins are in the cards for miracle... it seems to me that miracle has a deal already worked out with yokohoma and they will continue to honor that deal.

The first race of the Miracle C65 was on GT/GTS Yokohama's. Yokohama will have the right tyres. Courage is working with Miracle in order to have the right set up for these tyres. Normally a second C65 will arrive at Laguna Seca.

By the way, what's happened to the Panoz GTS car? And will a prototype effort affect it?

the yokohamas can be a good tyre, as pointed out by FIRE... i don't doubt that with a two-car effort next year, yokohama will be keen on getting a competitive tire for these guys to race on.
as for the panoz GTS car, it seems to me that this idea has been scrapped as the esperante gt-lm is the GT car route that panoz took in order to sell its road cars. |
