Well that's an alternative- scary drivers, not scary cars!
Agree Gordon- Magenta with white stripe..... Did anyone see or read about the latest way of combating 'the drone menace' (and I mean those small flying helly-o-copter things)? I've always thought a well aimed 12 bore would do the trick, but for those devoid of a shotgun licence or keen to use a more 'natural' resource, apparently Eagles can be trained to attack and bring down an unwelcome machine. It's already happening in Europe somewhere...... |

For the Anglia's colours, may I suggest (not for the first time) dark mauve or purple with a a wide stripe in gold from bonnet to boot in recognition and tribute to Redex Gold Cross Oil who were the sponsors of the Special Saloon championships for many years.
It would also remind me of my old banger, which we ran in those colours for a couple of years because of help that Redex gave me. |

Although they do look the part with contrasting colours and wide stripes, I built this one in 1988 for the same series as George was in and left it plain white.
I got sponsorship from various people including FastCar Magazine but only used it for a couple of seasons and won loads of races and a Championship with it. I brought George's car to use in the BTTC/ ICS support races and used it with great success for 20 years. But time has taken it's toll on me having raced in various genre on two wheels and four for 45 + years and the old Anglebox will have to go ! |

Peter M was faced with this a few weeks ago when needing to buy a transponder, and it was briefly discussed. Post #284 on I think....

If we adopted my master plan, where every huming bean is 'chipped' at birth, we wouldn't need a transponder, credit cards, driving licence, passport.......

Bought my new helmet for use with HANS for this year, yesterday.....nice young man was reassuring me that it was certified for use to at least 2023 - and quite probably longer........I had to suggest to him, whilst trying to negotiate pensioner discount ( ) that it would probably out last me...certainly on the track. Though having spent for lid and HANS, I'll have to get some value for money, I guess.
Mix of 750 Roadsports and CSCC Future Classics this year, I think |

Just before anyone buys the X2, make sure they are legal. They've been selling one into the karting industry that is not accepted by the MSA. A lot of cross customers as you can understand. If anyone has a Classic AMB transponder that appears to be dead, I can put them the way of someone who does a battery repair service very reasonably. It cost £35 to revive mine. |

I had to have a bit of a smile after reading about another "barn find" of an E Type that was found in France and been restored, now worth £300 000.
But to who ? another speculator ? Looking back to the 60s a mate of mine brought a 1962 3.8 for £600 and used it for a year and took it off the road because the clutch was slipping, he got fed up with it and someone gave him £250 and took it away. In the 70s another mate had a V12 E and when the petrol shortage took hold he sold that for £1200 and at the time was lucky to even get an offer ! Most of us (of a certain age) can all recall a story similar to this and I dread to think how many Mk 1 Escorts and Anglia's I have personally cut up and scrapped over the years when it could have been my pension fund ! Let's hear your stories of woe |

In a former life a truck salesman I knew had worked for a Renault car dealership. They had taken 2 V12 E-types in PX (for what he didn't say) but they ended up cutting them up just to get them off the forecourt. As you say Gordon, no-one wanted to know once petrol hit £1 a gallon!

It's rather interesting how some things gain value with age.
Recently we ageing oldies may have noticed a few examples of this apply to human males as well. I say human but some may disagree on that attribution. However with a few octogenarian and even the odd nonogenarian gentleman finding somewhat younger partners it is clear there is a still a market for people who are prepared to share in interest in older items that may offer some investment value. Of course it does seem to help if you are a billionaire or a multi-millionaire. Not sure why. Rarity value I suppose. Just like an E-type once so many others of its era have been laid to rest. |

Back in the 60s when in our early teens, a gang of us usually had a couple of old bikes, bantam and franny Barnett mostly, to thrash up and down farm tracks around the village. Sometimes a quick blast up the road as well, but that's another story! One day, having scraped up the three bob or so for a gallon of mixture we wandered round to the village garage, and there in the yard was an old silver car with spoked wheels and a long bonnet. The garage owner told us that it has split its rad or blown a core plug and was ours for twenty quid, but we were only on pocket money, so told some lads about it from your way on Gordon. I believe that is where it went and that they got it going and swapped it for a Facel Vega eventually .
The car in question was an Aston Martin DB2 and I would be very happy to part with £20.00 for it now. |

It could well have been a DB1 as it was a long time ago and I didn't really know about such things then, but I am sure its the same car. John and Andrew kidnapped it with a few mates from Kent.

He brought it from a village up in Nottingham and it was a blue DB2/4 and towed it back to our village in Kent with a seized up engine, it was then left out in the open on a farm for about a year or so and got various panel damage from tractors and other farm machinery. He told me that they never done anything to it and swapped it for a Porsche 356 also with a seized engine ! As for the Facel Vega HK500 he got it for a straight swap for a Beach Buggy |

If the village was East Brigeford, a few miles north of Nottingham, its the same car. Two of the lads parents moved up from paddock wood I think and quite a gang used to come up from Kent fairly regularly in all sorts of Baha style beetles and beach buggies and on a Café Race Ariel Red Hunter fitted with a Wal Phillips injector. Any of these machines would be a nice bit of pension fund now.
