I was a fan back in my childhood (when F1 was covered on Wide World of Sports) and adolescence (when Mario Andretti was WDC). I cheered when the Brits came to Indy and taught the good ol' boys a thing or three. Then I lost interest, and after F1 lost its American race (and virtually all media coverage) it was off my radar screen.

This is my story, to the letter. I'll also echo EERO's statement about the effect of the movie "Grand Prix", although by then I was already a fan. Going to the Canadian GP in '73 and seeing Formula Fords in a supporting race gave my buddy and I the incentive to try FF ourselves. I quit following F1 when Bernie decided he was not interested in having US fans, and when all coverage went to cable. The internet (esp. 10/10), Jaguar Racing, the new USGP and especially my satellite dish have convinced me to give it another go. (But Bernie, I'm watching you!)
