BMP have announced that they are to spend a million pounds promoting the BTCC. One approach is to increase youth appeal, partly by sponsoring 2 under 21yr old drivers.
Anothar area is that there will be famous guest drivers from the world of Motorsport and showbusiness in each round. Apparently when this was mentioned to Nigel Mansell his eyes lit up! |

I read that on the autosprout homepage, and if it's true that Nigel Mansell would really like to come back I'd be smiling. We are in desperate need of another race like Donington '98, one of my all time favourite motor races and Rickard didn't even finish! That's how good I thought it was...if BMPs ideas work this championship will be a winner again, although I'm not sure what they mean when they say showbusiness - that could be dodgy.
John Cleland needs to return if he's got time (wasn't that the reason he stopped GTs?), Will Hoy and the guy we love to hate, Steve Soper. But they're not under 21... |

no no no no Mansell or any other guests thanks - let's keep the thing as a proper racing series not full of gimmicks to attract the part-time punters
next you'll be telling me the cars will run in football club liveries |

Look out for for dramatics and plenty of trips by the ambulance as Nige sprains his ego in the kitty litter.... |

Please don't let the same happen to touring cars as it does in the Lotus - that is the celebrity driver gets in the car and shows everyone else up - look at Gyndaf Evans & Martin Donnelly. It's either that or they are a liability.

Maybe it would add some spice to it - this year has become a bit of a durge you have to admit, although the series must keep it's creditability.

... and that Donington '98 race in which Rickard didn't finish was thanks to none other than Derek Warwick...
As for the main issue, bring in the 'one-offs' just for some entertainment value - even Dill said he 'backed' the SuperCars (or was that Super Stars? - I hate that word) formula. Drawing big names does bring in the crowds and occasionally improves the racing, but it can also be a liability. It's a tough one, but what would really help is having at least one ex-F1 driver, like [/i]Moansell[/i], for an entire season. But please, not Del Boy... |

When I read that "guest driver" bit I immeidately thought of big breasted girl rock stars and WWF people - that is, "stars" that the 18-24 demographic would recognize and would draw them to the track in search of autographs, not racing.
If they mean people who actually know how to drive a race car, what makes them think the kiddies will recognize these guys and come to see them? |
