The announcement about Caterpillar joining FPR is an interesting one. The powder room had suggested that FPR had plonked a proposal in front of WesTrac and CAT for full car signage.... and if you read the press announcement, it doesnt actually say the Westrac/CAT branding will be primarily on the #5 and #6 cars....

It is not impossible to assume from this that the WesTrac/CAT funding is a whole of car branding, for the #10 car (or whatever number it becomes) as the 3rd FPR-prepared machine.

If FPR has sourced the sponsorship, you would have to imagine the pilot they may put in the hypothetical 3rd car would be of their choice...

Dean Canto? Already contracted to the team, and we know he doesn't have the backing, FPR arranged sponsorship could be just the thing. if they are in that scenario, fingers crossed it is him

Pro, In one of the mags (either AA or enews)Tim Miles was quoted as saying they were looking to sell there manufacturing arm only - not engines. So I guess that means that Engines will still be TMS. Also, I understand that they didn't sell it - so I guess that means they will be TMS/TMS.

31 car in 2009

http://www.v8supercars.com.au/conten...cars_for_2009/

V8 Supercars Australia has confirmed it has placed the 31st licence on the market, and the governing body is confident there will be a full grid at the opening round of the 2009 Championship, the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide on March 19-22.

V8 Supercars Australia Media Manager, Cole Hitchcock told radio programme, V8 Insiders, that the 31st licence - which was dormant in 2008 after being bought back by the governing organisation - was on the market, and that it would be sold well before the season started.

“My understanding is that the 31st licence is up for sale. It has been advertised and it is being negotiated by us (V8 Supercars Australia),” Hitchcock told the Internet podcast.

However, Hitchcock denied that selling the 31st licence meant V8 Supercars Australia had backed away from its stated goal of reducing the field to 28 cars.

“It still doesn't alter our goal of eventually getting down to 28 cars. (V8 Supercars Australia Chairman) Tony Cochrane himself said that is a goal that could potentially take some time,” Hitchcock explained.

“There are now some teams that are three or four-car teams, so we are reducing the number of teams, while not necessarily the number of cars on the grid.”

Hitchcock said V8 Supercars Australia was confident of sealing a deal to secure a new owner for the 31st licence.

“I don't think there is any question that all of the available licences will be sold (before the start of the season),” he said.

“In a supply and demand environment our licences are sought after which proves that our sport is very healthy.”

With a yet-to-be-confirmed new owner for the 31st licence, the ex-PWR and ex-Waldon licences believed to be sold to Walkinshaw Performance, the second Bright licence acquired by Paul Cruickshank Racing and the ex-Ford Racing Stars licence going to Marcus Marshall, there is expected to be a full grid at the Clipsal 500.

Another question mark over licence custodianship is whether Larry Perkins will continue to run his own two licences, lease them to Kelly Racing for a mooted four-car outfit, or lease them to a totally different entity.

Hitchcock also took the opportunity on V8 Insiders to confirm recent reports that the 2009 race formats were far from set in concrete.

“We have made no secret that we are still looking at race formats and that there was always a possibility that we could change things,” he said.

“We need to keep the interest in the sport and to revitalise it. The way that we do that is to make change, but it is not change just for the sake of change … we have had a lot of criticism in the past 12 months about the lack of action and the lack of passing. That comes from the media and the fans, so we have reacted to that.”

Hitchcock said that there would already be a number of changes to the entertainment mix in 2009, including the introduction of Ethanol fuel - which has a much higher consumption rate - and a two compound tyre system.

“With all of that happening it is the perfect time for us to make some changes (to the race formats) to address what the fans want,” he said.

Hitchcock refused to be drawn on recent rumours that Nissan would take over the safety car contract that was recently vacated by Chrysler.

My Favourite 08 moment was when Courtney/Besnard comeback drive at Bathurst. Courtney raced through to dominate the opening stint had 15 sec. gap to Lowndes who was in 2nd. In the 2nd stint a slowly deflating tyre (originally diagnosed as a damaged anti-roll bar) slowed Besnard's stint in Courtney's car allowing Whincup to assert dominance over the field rest of the race. On lap 160 S.Richards, fading badly on rear tyres was unable to stop Courtney move into 3rd place.

WTF that does not make sense at all. so less teams but more cars yet they want 28 cars. it's good to have more cars though for mine it should be between 31 and 35 cars and another 5 - 10 (depending on finances) FV8 cars at the enduro's.

also we are just over 2 months out from the season and nobody knows how the race format will be.

these guys could't organise a root in a brothel!!!!!

IF only!
IF FPR had a third car/licence and IF they had sufficient sponsorship to take on an unfinanced driver I would love it to be Canto. But why would his luck change now? If it wasn't for bad luck, he wouldn't have any luck at all!

Considering that it is Larry's licence so his decision (in theory), if the Webb cash is available why wouldn't you take it?

With Caltex gone from SBR and Jason Bright's connection with Penrite.
Could we see Penrite as the drink of choice for SBR engines?

That would make the number closer to 40,000 licenses.

WTF? What an embarassment VESA are. Is there another major sporting body in Australia who are unsure on exactly how many teams will be in their competition? These blokes are a laughing stock.
