There was questionable legality of the Ovlovs at the time. Hope nobody looks too closely now. Especially with a ruler.

Interesting to see the road cars side by side... not conclusive evidence all these years later, but enough to start some interesting chat.

The ex-Hazelton car, now in the hands of Richard Prince, maybe close to the 'right' spec, but its painfully slow at most circuits.

Hazelton Volvo

GTRMagic - I agree it is painfully slow. K-Jetronic system is only providing 300cc/min per injector. It needs 450cc/min to make its HP potential. We're working on it. Hope to have it running to its potential by Phillip Is in March.

Is this something simple like an ECU change can fix? The 740T you ran/run appears a LOT quicker Welcome to the forum too Richard

Keep at it Richard. I had problems with finding someone who could reliably tune the M3 with the original Motronic in the past which resulted in a meltdown I couldn't afford. The only reliable way to fix it was to spend too much money and put on a Motec, problem solved and of course I download the data and can see if I'm about to have a problem before it costs too much money. Is this a possible fix for you too?
36 entries for the Island, I'm looking forward to it, see you there

240T

After discussion with CAMS Historic officials, I have a Motec M4 controlling a boost control valve on the hose from the inlet manifold to the K-Jet CPR - this manages A/F ratio as boost comes on by lowering the control pressure, allowing more travel of the "flapper" in the K-Jet. All we need now is more fuel flow through the injector head, lines and mechanical injectors themselves. My K-Jet specialist believes he can get this by opening the width of the slots in the K-Jet metering valve.
I contacted the guys who restored the original Petch/Francevic car in Germany (Tuff240 website referenced earlier in this post) and they said they had the same drama - seems there's no-one left who knows exactly how they got 355HP out of the factory cars in the mid-80's.

I thought Randall Edgell in NZ rebuilt the Volvo engines for MPM way back then? Mr Edgell is still around...

Are you sure you don't mean John Sheppard? Les was still building Commodores for Gricey at the time.

At the very least wasn't the Petch Volvo based at Roadways during its 1985 ATCC campaign? Could Small have had some input, as the first appearance of a Small-prepared Commodore that year wasn't until the 1985 Castrol 500 (#6 for Grice & Warren Cullen).

Wayne Eckersley was involved as well from memory in sorting out the car in 1985.

Looks like Philip Island Historics will have 33 Group A/C cars on the grid with another 10 on display.
One of the largest gatherings of cars with the largest variety of makes and models....

Get to the track, talk to the drivers and check out the Greatest categorys in historic racing today!

Can anyone help me getting a Getrag 262 or 265 gearbox for the Lawrie Nelson Mustang. I don't care if its Got the holinger internals or not, I would like to get the car back on the track for later this year....

I've been told of Albins Engineering in rural Vic as a supplier of Getrag parts, can they help?
I just had a good Getrag made out of two bad ones in order to hopefully have a trouble free time at the Island in a few weeks, see you then.

To add to the atmosphere a couple of the teams have made replica team shirts from the era their car was running. It just adds that little more to the event I think.

Going back to the BMW 320`s, ex Busby, ex Gardner JPS etc... I brought one of the car`s ( Ch # 16..) back to the UK about 6 or 7 years ago. This is the car that is now in Sweden. With it were some old blue bodywork that was not as wide as normal, presumably for the narrower wheels required in Australia. This car was very original and had not been crashed or cut about in any way, which is suprising when reading the previous posts about various accidents, different engines, etc....most of that must have involved the other car. Jim Busby told me he only raced the car now in Europe once, and normally raced the other later car which had been `tube framed`. Car #16 was previously raced in Europe by BMW, it was the first turbo car that Stuck / Peterson raced in late `77 & early `78. Busby`s other, later , car had been built in mid `78 for Peterson to race in Europe but after testing it once he was killed at Monza. I understand that the `later` car is now back in the USA but has lost it`s chassis number when it was modified.
