West McLaren F1?
I noticed that in 1995, a McLaren showed up at Le Mans wearing the West "FM" name.

It is in red and white, which is what the Zakspeeds ran for so many years, and I know that France has VERY strict laws on tobacco sponsorship. Was this a way around the rule, to enter the car as "West Racing" or something? |

If I remember correctly, it was just a good way of getting around the rules... think they mentioned it in the commentary at the race.
Everyone was happy, espically 'West FM' I guess. |

The car also ran in the Global GT race at Silverstone in 1995.

8 John Nielsen/Thomas Bscher McLaren F1 GTR West Competition I think they ran all year. I have seen pic somewhere. They won Monza and Donington Park. 1. They also won both titles in 1996 under the same name.
They retired from 1995 Le Mans and were 4th in 1996. http://wspr-racing.com/results/results.html Thats the best place to find sportscar results. |
