UK EDGE magazine; our most respected gaming mag, gave it 8/10, equivilant to a good 9 in any other publication. Out in the UK next Friday, so I assume Oz around the same time...

I am eager to see this as well, Oval racing and doing it is 10000x more fun than staring at roundy round on lap34 with 256 to go

From hat I've heard it's not a very good game, maybe you can try the IOR mod for F1 2002?

It's excellent. The sense of speed and the actual pure racing is superb even if it aint the most stunning game ever.

I certanly think it is a stunning game. By far the most enjoyable racing game I have played, the close racing and the speed of it all is amazing. Unlike some other racing games, you acually need skill ti do well at this...I would have another thumb grafted onto my left hand to give this three thumbs up. Brilliant.

By the way, what was the name of the song that the Queens of the Stone Age allowed to be included in the game?

What system are you playing it on Down FOrce? PS2? If so does it run consistantly smoothly. I'm not sure weather to get the PS2 or the Gamecube version, if it runs fine on the PS" then I'll get it for that as the controller is far superior.

I'm using the PS2 version, and yes it runs very smooth. Go for that one.

Having played both PS2 and Xbox versions I went for Xbox like a shot, it's just a little crisper and seems a bit faster. But both versions are good; it aint avalible on Gamecube.

I think, (if you are playing with pad) that the xbox pad suits perfectly for oval racing games, because of the triggers.

You won't see it or indeed any other Codemasters games on GC, I'm afraid - they ditched the console last year when the machine started struggling in the UK.

Anyway, get the game. Yes, it may be left, left, left and left again for a few hundred laps, but the racing action is by far the best I've seen in a wings 'n' slicks game in ages.

'UK EDGE magazine; our most respected gaming mag, gave it 8/10, equivilant to a good 9 in any other publication.'

Ooh, I dunno - the magazine isn't *that* respected...

Nah, I think Edge is awful. I bought one copy but got sick to death of it after reading a couple of features. It's very arrogent and tries to portray the whole games as art thing that really grates. PSW is my favourite gaming read as it's genuinely funny and willing to take a pop at itself whilst still being honest and informative. The writers come across as the kind of blokes you wouldn't mind going down the pub with, where as the writers of Edge are the kinds of guys who wouldn't actually go down the pub in the first place.

Yeah, in my opinion the game is best suited to the Xbox pad because of the triggers. I decided to get it on Xbox over PS2 very consciously for a range of reasons....and nope, no more Codemasters games on the Gamecube. Shame, they did exactly the same to both the N64 and the Dreamcast.

To be fair to Codemasters, they aren't the biggest publisher in the world, and publishing royalties on Nintendo and Sega consoles are higher than those on Microsoft's and Sony's machines. Fair enough, if the machines like the DC and GC are selling in huge numbers then you can support it, but if they start lagging behind, it's just not in a company like Codies interests to support them.
