[QUOTE=bazil;2582705]From what I hear the 44,000 tickets is the average for each day, or a three day crowd of already 130,000+ and still 3 weeks out.

What you hear is wrong.44000 tickets in total were sold on that date with around 18000 of them 3 day tickets. The rest were one day GA tickets most commonly for Saturday (ie Cold Chisel concert).

Build it and they will come. don't have any events and no one will come and spend their money. how else do they expect the state to kickstart it's economy? the anti-race fraternity will no doubt be the only loud voice against the event.

i notice they compared the event to the 'failed' canberra round. Yeah, forget that the cbr round was run in the coldest city in australia during the coldest month of the year. (whoever thought that one up should have been strung up).

As has been mentioned here a few times now, it seems that being unprepared, stupid and downright ignorant are pre-requisites to holding a senior management position at VESA.

Every post about Mr Howards ridiculous performance is right. He is the VESA Chief Operating Officer and GM of V8 Events, yet he couldn't wait his turn to be interviewed, didn't know what to tell the reporter, started every answer with at least one long umm...was not in corporate attire or even company uniform, looked like a middle aged surfie, and did the event no benefit.

What everyone at VESA has to learn that as their series and events grow and once Government is involved, so does the media interest, speculation and relentless pursuit of answers. As for media training - awareness of how to handle such situations is crucial and this was sadly lacking.

Also, the Minister, while very obviously a strange character, didn't deserve the flick based on that - I agree with the poster that has articulated the fact that Howard's verbal diahorrea, particularly the commercial in confidence line and the 'its our business' line - which when taking 30 mil of tax payers dollars, the reporter and the community says -no mate, its OUR business as we are investing in it - like it or not - and guess what - THEY ARE RIGHT!

It would have been easy to diffuse the situation by letting the minister finish and handing it over to Howard. Then through comments such as 'almost 50,000 tickets in total at this stage' instead of the ummm gold, platinum crap... then when asked about the agreement a line like 'at this stage we can't but I would be pleased to sit down with you after the event and go through everything' or something of that nature. Keep it pleasant and positive, regardless of the jerk asking the questions or firing you up. He was a good reporter, because he managed to shut up the minister, then drive Howard to despair and the monkeys Skaife and Richards looks on in disbelief I reckon....that was the funniest part.

In regard to the whole Eastern Creek discussion, as a NSW Govt owned asset, it astounds me that the deal for the Telstra 500 was done without them saying, "yes but you MUST have a round at Eastern Creek for the next 10 years'. That way, it would ensure that their asset is used to the utmost. But no, they agree to dumping the round there for the Olympic Park concept. The creek has its anomalies but it is one of the best circuits in the country in terms of facilities compared to some of the goat tracks around the place.
