Penalised again!

You'd think that a professional driver would be able to do that with his foot.

Perhaps Renault don't feel they have enough speed with the old engine to take the championship and have been forced into a gamble.

There's also the engine freeze complications.

Alonso was so far back in the field that I think he was just trying some extra tricks to get up to the front, and after that VERY silly penalty I don't blame him to be honest..They could be trying to compensate for the mass damper ban, another piece of nonsense at this point in the season and wrong thread. But I am listening dejay

It's hard to say that Alonso's engine exploded partly due the penalty. He had a new engine, which is build to last two whole race weekends. That engine should had last at least the whole Italian race, don't you think?

It should have yes. But circumstances did not allow it.

New spec engine + midpack running = smoke and bits of engine flying around.

Still, that is racing.

Maybe he should have "saved his engine" like Ralphie used to, rather than use it to try to pass people

We've not had a good 'saved engine' comment for ages. Thanks

If mid-pack racing is too much for a Renault engine to handle, then i seriously think Red Bull have to re-consider the new deal they struck.

Unless, of course they are certain they will be racing in the front only.

The issue about Alonso having to "stress" his engine because of the penalty and thereby causing it to blow is obviously foolishness; Symonds said so himself:

The team experienced a turbulent weekend in Monza. What impact will it have on this weekend’s race?
PS: It is a completely closed chapter. I think you have to be fatalistic when evaluating these things. The fact is that Fernando’s engine failed, and cost us the points. Had he been leading or in P22, that failure would have happened at the same point of the race. Our focus has been on fixing that problem, and getting on with the job. The events of the weekend were unfortunate, but made no difference to the final result. So we have to draw a line under it, and start again.

Well, they shouldn't be... but some did insist that it is the mid-field racing than cause Alonso's engine to blow-up.

My apologies Gt_R for speculating on what may have caused Fernando's engine failure.

It won't happen again.
