GP Layouts

Why don't the V8s, Super Tourers, Power Tour, Superbikes or whatever use the Calder Park GP ( Combined road coarse and Thunderdome, not used since WTCC race in 87 ) or the Sandown GP circuit ( Not used since Sandown 500 in 88 ). These tracks are much better than the layouts currently used and different classes could use the different tracks for variety.

Arrrghhhh...the GP circuit at Sandown....what a shocker! They went back to the modified circuit to revive a bit of the big bad Sandwon of old.

Calder- well it would probably be a major safety concern. The oval might be fine, but the cut back onto the road circuit, was in my eyes, always a disaster waiting to happen.

Racer,

The combined track was used for the last time about 3 years ago for a Club Sprint meeting. They had a very light shower of rain towards the end of the day which caused major havoc.

It had already been decided prior to that that there would be NO further race meetings (as distinct from sprints) on the combined circuit again - the Thunderdome, with 22 degree banking, cannot be used in the wet at all and is far too dangerous. The risk of rain also makes it impossible to predict whether a meeting could go ahead.
