How Much!!!!!
My eldest daughter just went into Sky Fords with her Focus because a fuse needed changing, the robbers wanted 40 quid!!!!! to do what is a simple DiY 2 minute operation, oh the fuse was a quid. I told her how to do it over the phone and she was up and running in minutes. How do they justify that?

I believe they have to take the engine out to change a bulb in a Renault.
Actually I have changed a headlight bulb in a Renault and afterwards would have clearly have preferred to pay £40 for someone else to do it. The fuse thing is outrageous. It shows everyone should have some basic car knowledge. However, that is taking the Mickey, although I don't think all Ford garages are like that. |

I exect the garage has a minimum charge of half an hour and no idea of a bit of good will bringing in extra business.

They have the business sense of someone who doesn't know how to change a fuse.

That is pretty outrageous. My Citroen dealer only charged me 63p after they discovered my passenger door lock wasn't working due to the fuse.
Renault service are awful! I needed a new exhaust system for my old car before I traded it in to Citroen. They wanted £275 and I would have to wait 3 days. The dealer who was taking it did it with genuine parts that day for £114! |

The worse thing is she originally bought the car from them and has spent thousands with them on insurance bodywork and servicing, I guess because she is a young woman they thought they could take advantage, even a tenner would have been expensive but far more reasonable.

My copper hot water cylinder has just sprung a leak, I have just been over to buy one and it is £198, disgraceful. My last one was £41 and the previous one was £12.6s.11p but that was 1987 and 1967 respectively.
No wonder there are so many pikeys driving around stealing copper and other metals now. |

I personally dont charge for a 5 min job for "my customers" thats why they come back, that includes code reading.
Mind you thats probably the reason why I never have too much money to waste on motor racing |

Let's face it, by the time the garage has sent someone out to to collect the car, taken it back to the garage, changed the bulb then driven it back, I think £40.00 represents bloody good value.
Can't see the problem. |

It was'nt a bulb, it was a simple blade fuse and she took the car to the garage, as I said a tenner would probably have been acceptable but 40 quid is a joke. One of my first jobs was forecourt attendant at Milcars in Mill Hill and we would check tyres, battery, rad, washers and top up all for free and fill them up with petrol!

My Father has a S Type Jag, and needed something done to it - can't remember what. Dealer quoted a monster figure, he went to a local guy who specialises in Jags - £10. - just the part cost as it only took a few minutes to fit.
My father no longer goes to the main dealer. I think there is a lesson to be learnt there...both for main dealers and for small local independents. James |

I got charged £35 for a fuse for a front headlight from a small independent place when I first got my car, now I keep spare fuses in the car and have learnt......!

£35.00? Good God woman that's less than a glass of champers at Overtons. Can't see what you're complaining about!

It's a half decent pair of shoes for starters....... Or if we're talking in car terms, a tank of fuel!

Tank of fuel? Is it a mini? Dont you realise that running a full tank is extra weight and cost's more in fuel economy.

I rarely fill up [15l yesterday] but about to start commuting to work, so I guess I'll start filling up "properly" soon! And no it's not a mini but still a small car!
