rhodopsin should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
One of those photos you were lucky to be in the right place at the right time threads

This is one of my lucky moments and rather lucky it didn't decapitate me or one of the Marshals

For me I would say this one, and the associated sequence that goes with it (took about 15 shots of the accident!). There was a few other photographers there, but some missed it, and I got the best view - along with a double page in Autosport, and the front cover of motorsport news...

And i've not seen too many of this, quite this dramatic
http://a933.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...5092522934.jpg

And finally...I admit, I got three chances at this one, in 5 laps!

Not a great photo, especially when shown small, but this is one I got. I didn't feel that lucky as you can probably tell which way it headed moments later. Thankfully there is a similar bank on this side.

I thought I'd add a scene setter to give an idea how close rhodopsin was to the flying bonnet (from a different run, rhodopsin not in the photo)

i have a picture somewhere from a FoCA test at Silverstone around 2001 when Eddie Irvine came out of his Jag pit garage, spun and ended up facing up the pitlane. I'll see if I can dig it out

You're joking, right?

He went around like that for several laps. The 2 pics above were taken 7 mins apart, and as I recall he carried on for several minutes more. I think everyone in the Abbey grandstand got at least one shot.

I'll go for this one

Rodolfo Gonzalez thought it would be nice idea to take trip into the gravel trap at the Old Hairpin at World Series by Renault meeting at Donington in September 2005.

http://www.rdj-pics.co.uk/Photos/200...s/Renaul07.jpg

The photo featured in that weeks Motorsport News.

Race car and spare. Early practice for the Aust Grand Prix.

Why do you buy two Jags?

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...ag/twojags.jpg

Same fault stopped both cars on the 1st lap out.

And on the same corner.

We managed to give the cars back at the end of the session without adding to the damage that the designers and mechanics had already done.

These are probably still my best example of the right place at the right time pics. Jason Elliott back in 1992 or 3 at the Old Hairpin at Donington. Brake failure during qualifying - Taken from the spectator enclosure, long before I did photography for a living. Probably a good job I was in the spectator enclosure!

Its a great picture for me because I was on post. The picture does not show how heavy the impact was. Thankfully the driver was fine and he managed to get over the finish line with a very wobbly wheel. This was one of four incidents in a very short space of time, one of which looked more like a scene from a plane crash and another turning over. For those familiar with marshalling at Shelsley, there is an occurrence called 'Top S Twitch', and this was one of those days when there was plenty.

Matt...you should have been the other side of the barrier for that sequence !! Here's a few of mine...I was walikng past Richard Petty's motor home where he was watching tv (it pulls out ofits own little side door in the vehicle!) and so took this shot of the "King"...my friend and new 2007 Ford Saloon Car champion Olly Allen destroying his Fiesta at the Hairpin at Mallory a few years ago...and also George "Starwars" Lucus getting out of his wrecked Scion at LongBeach this year after a lady driver tried unsuccessfully to get his autograph!...unfortunately I was too close to get all the accident in the viewfinder!!
