March

I am joining this very late. But as the Team Manager for Petonyer Team March I can clarify a few things. Saw a comment about the Bremner chassis. Geoff was a ship broker and knew the PCW Underwriting people who owned the Petonyer cab leasing business. He had won the Formula 1172 Championship like Max Mosley and bought a second hand Chevron F3.

PCW were already sponsoring Tom Walkinshaw, so Geoff put a deal together to have a new March but also for the team to run as the factory squad with a second car for Tom. Then March put in a third car and their works driver Ian Ashley. It all came together late, I was hired from Motoring News to manage it having handled the March early PR as a freelance. So we had a three car team. Geoff always had the same car which answers the original question.

I have lots of memories of that year - 1970.

Chassis 713M-8

I have recently been looking through some old papers of mine.

I bought 713M-8 as a rolling chassis from (I think) the architect for the Sheraton Hotels group in about 1974

Prior to this I had an Alexis Mk 15 FF hillclimb car at the time with a Shorrocks supercharger bolted to a cast rocker cover with four upswept exhaust stubs.

For some reason I was in London, with a pile of old Autosports (As you do!), and found the March advertised.

The owner had already moved abroad with Sheraton Hotels and left his wife to sell the car. It had a Mk9 gearbox fitted, but I couldn't afford to buy it with the gearbox!

I rang Jeff Goodliff (Who had engineered the Alexis) and was running Jim Crawford in an Atlantic March, for advice and his comment was "Get it bought. Get it bought"

Jeff had a 1600 BDA on downdraught Webers in his 'stock', and fitted it to the chassis with fuel injection and a Mk 8 gearbox.

At some later stage I blew up the gearbox on the line at Croft, and fitted the F2 parallel rear links and cast mounting saddle with a FT200 gearbox, so it finally finished up as a 713/2M!

The car was used for hillclimbs and sprints from 1975 through to the end of 1977.

I sold the car complete at the end of '77 ish to someone down South, who I seem to remember took the side off on a tree at Prescott, but the details are a bit hazy now, so I may be wrong.

I hope this may fill a few gaps!

March 713S-7

Hello from germany,

i know this is a very old thread but i'm the owner of a March 713 S with chassis number 7. At the moment i restore the car and bring it back to the original condition.
Sorry for my bad school-english (30 years ago ...) but maybe this gives me an opportunity to bring back english spoken and written

March 703-10

Hi Everyone,

I recently acquired March 703-10 from Rodney Dahlgren in Napa California. Andy Gilberg at Marchives identified the car from the Arch Motors chassis stamps.

Rodney had imported the car from Germany in 1990 and stored it in his warehouse since coming to the US. The car was used as a Hill Climb car in the late 70's and had 73 March type body work installed and a BMW 1600 engine.

I'm looking for the original body work and 1000cc ford engine.

According to the German web site formel3guide.com the car had interesting race history in 1970 with the Eifelland Team in Germany.

This is it's 1970 racing record from what I can find.

Nürburgring ADAC April 19, 1970 Driver Willi Deutsch 4th place Eifelland Racing Team

Hockenheim May 10, 1970 Driver Willi Deutsch 3rd place Eifelland Racing Team

Hockenheim July 7, 1970 Driver Hans-Joachim Stuck DNF accident Eifelland Racing Team **

Diepholz July 19 1970 Driver Willi Deutsch 3rd place Eifelland Racing Team

Mendig October 4, 1970 Driver Hannelore Werner DNF Eifelland Racing Team

Thruxton FIA European Cup September 20, 1970 Driver Hannelore Werner
DNF Eifelland Racing Team

** 19 year old Hans-Joachim Stuck second professional race out of 345 career starts**

Any leads on body work would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Jeff Hecox
