Berkshire Park

I'm back with a new track. And yes it is not Pinnacle, but Berkshire Park. Counter clockwise in direction, have not measured but meant to be ~2.5 miles.

Hope you all like it. At some point I might attach the sketchup file.

Absolute beauty !!

I'm a firm believer in the C concept, AMOF I had an old design somewhere in my vault just like that, I like that track a lot!

Two great designers designing two great tracks looking like eachother. The track reminds me a bit of the Phakisa Freeway in Welkom because of the fact there's only one real straight. There are no fast turns though and the infield might be a bit too tight. There are plenty of overtaking opportunities though.

xlr8r,
perfect for my taste. Both an eye candy and what I believe to be a great track to race!

Here is the sketchup file if you want to take a closer look or fiddle around with alterations. Thanks for the comments so far, Osterreichringesque is an awesome compliment. That is my favorite track to race on in Grand Prix Legends, wish it were still used for racing today.

xlr8r,
say, may I make it into testable format to do a couple of rounds on it? Although I keep promising to post my lap videos and then always fail to do so, I promise you too, to post it here

Mostly flat, no steep elevation changes. Maybe exit of turn 1 is uphill through the slight kinks. Then downhill after the turn located at the top of the track down the straight towards the carrousel. Then uphill again after that carrousel turn into the infield section. The first part of the esses that wrap around the paddock should then be slightly downhill. Then flat all the way through to the exit of turn 1 again.

Do what seems right to you, but I intended this track to be great without elevation, so no eau rouge or corkscrew type corners.

Finished modelling the track and took my first laps. So.now i can really say: the track is great.

Now i'm trying to master the track as much as i can for the videos.

Kinda stuck with the video conversion... Anyone has a good idea for a (legally) free app that i can use to resize my avi files? VDub doesnt seem to be able to do that one trick...

As for some pre-release though, I chose a BMW F1 car for a chase cam lap and a Honda Spoon for a cockpit cam lap (the latter one with a game steering wheel). After quite some experimentation this seems to be the best setup.

All right, the videos then.

First, sorry for the very poor quality, seems like the video compression left quite a lot to be desired... Also, there's no sound for the vids, wanted to keep the files as small as possible.
Also, I did not have the time to really master the tracks and find the ideal racing line, so the vid laps are far from being perfect - heck, even from really good...

The first one is a chase camera view, with Ralf Schumacher's Williams BMW. Steering method is the keyboard's cursor keys, hence the rather hectic and "raw" cornerings

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyBqwh_BYPQ

The second clip is the driver's first person view, from a Honda idunno model Here I used my pc gaming steering wheel so the steering is much smoother.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqBQKL_o0eE

Once again, sorry for the poor quality.

Hmm... I see the chase cam video is not smooth at all... Dunno why that is... I guess I'll make a better one.

From this view the track only looks better though being quite featureless.

Great job Bio, no complaints from me. I think you captured my vision for the track as best as you could. You really nailed the infield section by getting the variable apex corners perfectly. You even had some driving mistakes with those corners in the vids. This ended up being a really cool collaborative effort in designing and building a track.

Well, it wasnt particularly hard dince you gave a good description and provided a well usable map

It was really a fun track to drive. If you install Racer i can mail you the track files so you can drive round too.

Fantastic Bio - I'd love to have a crack at doing something like this myself.

Its really not hard. Blender is a very user friendly tool, and even TrackEd isnt hell If youre really interested, i might write a quick user guide and assemble a software and file pack to start with once i have the time...
