DAF Variomatic F3

I ve read somewhere that the factory DAF entered
2 cars at Monaco F3 in 1964 or 1965 one for
Rob Slotemaker and the other ...
Was this a single appearance or was it build on a long
term project.

Daf ran cars in f3 between 1965 and 1968. The first chassis they used was an Alexis, which was an experimental set-up. They then switched to Brabhams, prepared by The Chequered Flag, who went on to build new chassis carrying the Daf name in 1967. Gijs van Lennep and Mike Beckwith were the works drivers that year and each won a race. For 1968, they used Tecno chassis but withdrew at the end of the season.

I bought a used car from Mike Beckwith in 1987!

I phoned an ad about an old Hillman Avenger, and went to an address in North London. When I asked the name to make the payment to, my vendor replied "Mike Beckwith", and was a bit taken aback when I asked him about the Normand racing team!

Wonder what he's doing now - I understand he had been selling used cars for some little while then.

The Normand collection - I used to live behind Normands and there is an old Georgian square that they used to use to test the cars - also my recollection is that Mike was still working there in the nineties selling VW's tho' this could be mistaken

At least one of the cars was on display at the DAF Museum in Eindhoven when I was there is 2006.

Fancy a car with a wicker cane dash board - check out the museum.
