Watching the "Inside Supercars" TV show last night, I have to admit it's gotten to the point i'm feeling abit sorry for James Phelps the last few weeks.
He might ask a few 'simple' questions, and probe for answers when he knows a driver can't answer, but some of the responses he got from James Courtney last night, and a few other drivers in recent weeks, boarded on downright rude and kind of embarrassing for a TV show. He's written alot of rubbish in the papers over the years, but I feel alot of that is in he is likely not really much of a motor racing person and covers it because News Limited tell him too, he relies alot on what he is told (especially when it comes to some 'historical features') and toes the Supercar corporate line to keep them happy, but in the terms of the TV show he represents the 'casual viewer' and a way to make the show appeal to the non-hardcores and the general sports fans. Lately on the show he hasn't really made many statements or shared too many of his opinions, he's just asked questions and received pretty blunt & dismissive replies... |

What does he expect?
He has zero credibility in the paddock. |

It is still unprofessional from the drivers. You would not get answers like that from Brock.

I reckon that drivers feel that Mr Phelps performance have been a little unprofessional as well.
Phelps is clearly a V8SC plant and yes man who is well well out of his depth. |

No time certain finish for the Women's Big Bash game today.
Glad to see a sport that didn't sell off its' integrity and believed in the quality of their product that would leave TV executives with no choice but to run into the news should it be required. Well done. |

TV isn't the sole reason for time-certain finishes.

Someone making a post that might be critical towards Supercars is hardly trolling, anything but.
chavez has proven over the years to be anything but with his posts This forum isn't a Supercars Appreciation Society, its a forum for motorsport enthusiasts to discuss their likes & dislikes about motor racing. Quote:

With time being critical at Supercar events I'd like to see at least all of the Support Races run to a time rather than by laps. It would end the almost conflict start cutting short of the support races. |

The issue has been made worse by TV networks demanding the scheduled finish ,which allows for very minimal SC laps , is 10 minutes before the end of telecast times. In the past when races finished 20-30 minutes before end of telecast most of the audience turned off.It is conditions imposed by television that mean more time can't be built into schedule to allow for disruptions.

As with most forms of racing, car racing has a format that fits a time critical finish.
A match between two teams does not fit that format because each side must be given equal status. Can't give one team 20 overs and the other 18. I would have thought this would have been plainly obvious to everyone including Chavez. |

Cricket could quite easily introduce a time certain finish using a suitably modified version of the Duckworth-Lewis system. Kudos for them not going down this path. If anything cricket has pushed the boundaries of TV network commitment by introducing early starts and late finishes for test matches interrupted by rain. Motor racing does lend itself to time certain finishes but it doesn't mean it is good for the integrity of the sport or the fan paying good money to sit trackside. They at least deserve to see a race run the full distance. |

The worst is when a race ends under a time certain solution when there's only a handful of scheduled laps remaining.

Mind you as a cricket fan and a motorsport fan, I hate the inequality of the Duckworth-Lewis system worse than I hate a time-certain race finish...

Off topic I know but as a cricket fan there is no inequality in Duckworth Lewis. There certainly was in every other formulation used before Duckworth Lewis. Can you point to 1 specific match in the history of 50 over cricket where Duckworth Lewis made it inequitable?
