R/C Racing cars (Tamiya...etc)
I was wondering if anyone on here own's a Radio Control car...and no i'm not talking about the small things you buy in Index that are £9.99, im talking proper 1/10 scale R/C Racers...cars like Tamiya, Schumacher, HPI...etc.
So what do you own, have you come up with some mad bodyshell design's, do you race...etc? Here's what I got, a Tamiya TA04, all pretty standard apart from an ESC replacing the plastic stick thing which comes with the kit. I use a Tamiya Nissan Skyline GT-R bodyshell in Orange (very nice) and I hope to take it racing. I also own a nice line up of TL-01's from Subaru to Ford Focus and a rare Lexus IS200 also in Orange. My brother has a kyosho inferno 7.5 sports which is great fun. Its in its element on the gravel driveway. Bloomin fast but its only a baby compared to some others I've seen.
Personally I'd say I'm one up over him though  - I got myself an R/C helicopter instead! Thinking about a car too though.

Aren't helicopters pricey?
I've never really got into that side of R/C, more into 4 wheels on the ground, but I love watching them, then you find out the price and the amount of experience some of these guys/girls have at flying these helicopters and planes... Something similar (better obviously
) to the inferno to race against - any suggestions?Its just the price of cars puts me off a little when you see what you get. My Raptor 30 cost about £300 for the model ready built and a good off road car costs about the same. Its really only the radio gear that costs more with helicopters (unless you crash! - thats where the PC flight sim comes in handy). |

I'm not that up to date on kyosho and off roaders, and I know that in the r/c world Tamiya cars are branded as the things that fall apart down the track which isn't true. I could suggest an on-road full out racer...the Tamiya 415 which really is amazing but pants off road or anything like that.

I used to do on-road indoor 1/10 raicing back in the mid/late '90s. This was when on-road racing consisted of modified buggies with wide bodyshells. I stopped just when scale saloon was taking off.
My most successful car was a Schumacher Cat 2000. I put it back into full off-road spec and did a few BRCA national events.I managed to make B Finals which I was very pleased with. It was the best you could expect when up against works drivers. The cars I have owned in the past are: Tamiya TA-02 (IIRC), Tamiya F1 Williams, Kyosho Lazer ZX-R and a Kyosho 2WD IC on-road (never raced that one though). |

I have a Serpent 710 (race legal) and a Serpent 705 (outlaw "1/8 scale killer"). I also have a seriously hopped up HPI Nitro RS4 3 for parkinglot use and an X-ray M18 for indoor use.

i got a shcumacher cat 3000 (1/10)
and my brother has just brought a 1/8th lighting nitrous car, its more of my dad and brother who have intrests in it, but i got 1

I've had a Cat 3K before, and its touring car brother, the Axis 2.
Schumacher are good manufacturers, the best bit is being able to buy spares and kits direct from the company.

Tamiya are (and always have been) popular, especially if you are starting out. Its just that lately, one the TRF415 and EVO range have been the only proper competiton cars (the TB02 is a possbile exception).
I still have a few Tamiyas (TL01, TA01, M03, and coming in the next couple of weeks, the F201). I'm going to do some more pics in a couple of days. |

Well I have a TRF415, basically been running it for the past 4 months or so, been getting on really well with it recently.... Oh and a certain Marc Reinhard seems to be Tq'ing the Worlds at the moment with his..

Not previously, but that was for club meetings so grip was generally low. For the winter series, I'm gonna stick with the one ways, apparently the grip really comes up, something I can see happening with 130 odd racers....
