Yes, very few Mk1 Mex, RS, TC in metallic or black in early years. Special order until Mex could be got in Tawny, then for '73 model year Ford changed that to Copper Brown. They didn't all have stripes, it was possible to get without. (The wing badge then said Mexico rather than 1600GT.) Pretty sure metallics like silver were also available then on all AVO cars. I had a new Mex in Copper- very rare now, should have kept it........

Slightly OT, but I had an Escort GT in 68 or 69 that was metallic jade green. Loved that car!

LDM should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
GT's did seem to have metalic paint more often than the Mexico's, do like the light metalic green!

It must have been a fantastic time to be involved with Lotus, I recently read his biography, which I was a little nervous of doing, but needless to say needn't have worried (if anything he went up in my estimations) and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The Crombac book is fine , but far from objective and tends to the superficial . The definitive Chapman book is Karl Ludvigsen's 'Colin Chapman - Inside the Innovator ', which I cannot recommend too highly.
