Robert Ryan is not knowing what he is talking about obviously.

Sn NASCAR each entry of any racing team is considered as Team. So in Cup Wood Brothers will have #21 Team and #47 Team. Owner points for each Team are calculated separately, and officially there's no such thing as "Overall Team Points for Nextel Cup for the Wood Brothers".

so D.R.T. is completely correct,
the guaranteed entry would be for the #21 car driven in 2007 by Kenny Schrader John Wood (if they will manage to score enough points to be in Top-35 of Team Owner Points, #21 was 33rd in 2006), while the #47 car of Ambrose would not get automatic entry based on owners points as it's a new car team entry and therefore it has little or no points before road course events.
There's the list of final 2006 points - Drivers & Owners

Unless the rulebook has changed since 2006 car owner points is based upon the individual car number.

eg for Joe Gibbs Racing the #11, #18 & #20 all score individually. If Joe Gibbs entered a fourth car for a race which was not in the top 35 in owner points the driver would have to be one of the fastest eight cars of those not in the top 35, or seven cars if the past champions provisional applied.

The #47 car has zero owners points so Marcos will have to quailfy on speed to make the race.

Robert Ryan another example of someone being in the same situation as Marcos this year was JPM last year at homestead... drivin the #39 it was a new(er) car and therefore there weren't any owner points for the car, therefore he had to qualify on time.

From the Wood Brothers website:
Quote:
Woods Brothers-JTG Racing and Team Australia concept creator Craig Gore will evaluate whether to extend Ambrose's Nextel Cup program beyond two races.

"The confirmation of at least two NASCAR Nextel Cup races for me in 2007 is fantastic news," Ambrose said. "Our learning curve continues to be a steep one in the U.S., and I am certainly looking forward to working with the team at Wood Brothers-JTG Racing and Craig Gore as we take the next step forward in my NASCAR career."

From other reports:
Quote:
[Woods Brothers-JTG Racing announced Wednesday that Ambrose will drive in at least two and up to 10 NASCAR Nextel Cup races in 2007.

Ambrose, 30, definitely start in the Nextel Cup road-course events at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California and at Watkins Glen International Raceway in New York State
I feel Ken Shrader is not racing on the roadcourses.

by the way, it seems, #47 Team will have some owner points before road course events, as Jon Wood will try to qualify for the spring race in Texas.
but of course, it would not be enough for top-35 in owner points

Robert Ryan, up to now it was known, that only Schrader and Wood will share #21 ride, so Marcos will not have "free pass" to the grid at Sonoma or Glen (and I have some doubts about the ability of #21 Team to stay in Top-35 this season, since there's some new flow of strong full time teams)

From the Schrader website message board:
Quote:
If the No. 47 car races in the Cup Series, it will either be sponsored by McKee Foods (Little Debbie parent company) if Jon or Ken drives and Team Australia if Marcos Ambrose is behind the wheel for the road course events
Quote:

it looks like Ken Shrader instead of John maybe doing that.

From my sources John Wood will run the 21 and Shrader the 47

Ken Shrader was going to race in the Truck series, part time for the Wood Brothers but they have a new fellow called Kelly Bires who will be racing in the Trucks joining Mark Martin and Bobby East.

Oops... Stacy Compton and a Joey Clanton will be the experienced/new chum pairing sharing the truck ride of Bobby east. Bobby is looking at going back to USAC.

It says he will definely start the events, not the actual races, doesn't mention specifically that he will be in a top 35 car.

Correct, which is why Montoya had to qualify for his Nextel outing last year despite all 3 other Ganassi cars having an automatic place.

Ok bascally for the Road course fans, thier are 3 R/C in the Busch series for 2007 he will automatically make those races in the #59 car based on owner points(and a little talent!). The Nextel cup will run 2 R/C races, He will be driving the #47 car in Nextel. he will have bascally NO points to fall back on even if he qualifys for 2 or 3 races ealier in the season. so he must put a fast time in,which i think he can do if he has a testing session. So its all on Him!

I think it's safe to assume that barring accident, Ambrose is going to be one of the 7 quickest in qualifying of the drivers not in the top 35 (plus the fastest former champion not in the top 35).

Impressive speed, he was the fastest non-Nextel Cup driver in practice. I wonder if we can get results on his VIR test?

twinwebbers should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
AS a NASCAR newby can I ask a dumb question?

Marcos is supposedly running in Busch series this year right?

So I look on the NASCAR site and look at all the driver lists and he is listed in the Trucks series not the Busch series.

But then he is also running a couple of Nextel races (given qualifying etc...).

So my questions are:
1. Is he still running the truck?
2. Is the Busch deal the whole season?
3. Where is the easiest spot to follow his progress? www.nascar.com?

Thanks a bunch and sorry for the newbie questions.
