Holden kill off the Monaro
Holden have annouced today that they are killing off the Monaro. They will produce 1200 more and that is all. Holden have said they wanted to stop producing the car while they were on a high.
I suppose thats what you get when you have a bloody yank as boss of Holden. |

The new VE comes out next year. 1200 Monaros represents almost 6 months sales. Given the yanks have pulled out of the VE program (and left Holden in deep doo doo) there was not much option - they are not going to have a new wagon for a couple of years either.

There are a lot about. maybe the desirability factor will be enhanced once they become an endangered species and then move to the officially protected list.

Holden ended up making four times as many as they originally expected.
Hopefully I'll buy a used GTO when I can afford it. |

Hmm... I wonder if Vauxhall know about this. Not that they've actually shifted many units in the UK...

A shame, it's a nice looking car.

I test-drove a Monaro when I was in Melbourne a couple of years ago. Fantastic car in V8 5.7l form. I had a "basic" Holden VX Commodore Exec saloon for the month I was there, and even that was V6 3.8litres... Can't afford a Monaro - spend far too much money looking after my 1983 BMW 635CSi! |

It's a great car the Monaro, but despite good reviews and better economy than you might think for a 5.7 V8, it hasn't sold well in the UK.
I think I'd rather keep the 635CSi if I were you, though! |
