the only info i have on both of these drivers is that they have undergone surgery...Robby McGehee has a broken leg and Im sure that davey hamilton has similar injuries.

both drivers were lucky to walk away without very serious injuries after the crashes ..Davey hamilton's crash was horrifying and how he hasnt been more seriously hurt i will never know.

McGehee was very unlucky..he was doing the right thing in getting out of the way but unfortunately Greg Ray had the same idea ..and what about the view from Eddie cheever's car ..that was scary.

thankfully with both of these shunts no one was really badly hurt but i hope that Davey and Robby make a full recovery.

BTW . Davey hamilton is the only driver whohas started every single IRL race and the next race (at Pikes peak) will be the first race that he missed in about 5 years. (Im pretty sure he wont make the race)

The general lack of info on his condition is a little bit of a worry though, I remember the same happenning with Johnny after his Brands shunt and the cards looked pretty similar.

Don't know where you are but I watched a satellite feed not a propper boardcast, and when the USA & Sky were on a ad break they showed a close up shot of the nose and there were no peddles, you could see right through to his belts, at the same time one of the pit reporters came on the radio and said he was pretty seriously injured but they were not to go into detail over the air, hence the "lower leg injuries" announced later.

It's sometimes amusing to hear the "off-air" conversations that the commentators have while on advert breaks.

I think we all jumped at that one - talk about nowhere to go.

Lynx..i am in Australia and get the race on Cable TV..i dont know what coverage it is but Jason priestly does the commentating with 2 other guys..the coverage here isnt to bad allthough this race wasnt live.

after reading your post about hamilton I would have to agree with you that no news is sometimes worrying and I didnt get to see the close up shots of davey's car and if it was as bad as you say it was then unfortunately his injuries will not be light at all.

I hope he is well and i will be thinking of him and praying he is not too badly hurt.

The unconfirmed word here in the States is that Hamilton lost his left foot in the accident and may lose the right one. These are all uncomfirmed rumors but a few of the posts on various forums were posted by people who are IRL insiders. Hamilton was flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis Monday morning.
McGehee suffered a fractured leg and a concussion and will be flown to Indianapolis later this week
I hope the rumors about Hamilton are not true but the lack of confirmed news on his condition makes you wonder.

Sometimes it has it's disadvantages watching feeds from Satellites (Imola 1994 being one), we get the same feeds as you but when the USA and Sky (here in UK) goto a break, the feed from the circuit stays running, OK I get to see the complete race from star to finish and the off-air messing around at the end and in breaks - even when the USA program ends the Satellite it still uplinking for about 10 minutes.

I knew when I saw the picture of his car he would not be racing next week, and you could tell from (Jack Arute's???) voice things were not good (think he was doing the pit running, sorry for spelling).

Shame the air got under the car, mid you Miss Fisher is very lucky - afoot higher and that wheel would have hit here square in the face - I'm not a Priestly fan but give him credit he saw that before anybody else.

Update on Hamilton is the doctors have so far been able to save his feet. He has alot more reconstruction surgery ahead but the docs being able to restore the blood flow is a good sign.

I saw the majority of the race. As usual the IRL cars have a good race at Texas. Unfortunately the nature of the track that was originally designed for 200mph stock cars has struck at the drivers. The wrecks were quite spectatcular and scary for any race fan.

I have no idea what was going through Greg Ray's brain when he elected to pass McGehee on the apron when the lap car was already half way on it. Not a very bright move. McGehee gave all of the track to the lead cars in a most gentlemanly move and got run over for it. It was easy to see him looking in his right mirror wondering where Ray was only to have him strike his left front tire and send them both crashing up the track into Cheever. I bet Cheever was very hot about it afterwards.

Dave S should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I just found this at autoracing1.com. My prayers go to both drivers for a speedy & full recovery.

On Hamiulton:
"His injuries include damage to bones, muscles and blood vessels, and circulation to his feet, according to Dr. Henry Bock, director of medical services for the Indy Racing League. He was transferred Sunday afternoon from Parkland Hospital in Dallas to Indianapolis' Methodist Hospital by an air ambulance. Surgery at Parkland early June 10 and subsequent surgery at Methodist that night were directed at stabilizing the circulation and removal of damaged tissue. Early reconstruction of the multiple fractures was begun as well. Subsequent surgeries will be directed toward further reconstruction of bone, muscle and skin. Hamilton is under the care of a team of specialist physicians led by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kevin Scheid."

They were pretty shocking crashes, and that last one...well weren't Ray and Sharp playing games on a lap or two previous to the accident down on the apron? It was a pretty silly move...

But wow, what an awesome race. If you had any doubt about NA engines, oval racing, or even the Texas track, you should sit yourself down and watch this....I can't remember ever seeing anything like it in CART competition.
