I was under the assumption it was due to a difference of opinion. The last time X-Games ran rallycross it was in a slightly different format to the GRC (six car grids for the final), which I understood was due to ESPN wanting racing and not a massive first corner pile up.

Would be keen to hear the facts from an authoritative source though.

So what about Jerome Grosset-Janin? Do Albatec have 3 supercars? Grint is the duffer in that team.

Albatec are building 3 new Peugeot 208 for ERX according to bilsport.no. Scott will drive the third car when it is ready later this year.

So many cars that are being build or already tucked in a garage somewhere, but sadly so many won't hit the ERX or WRX...

Until someone with the right package starts a smaller, less OTT series. Then hopefully you might see a few of them back out.

I see Bakkerud is openly talking about the 2017 season with HRD on Facebook, so that seems like pretty solid confirmation of his plans. I assume Block will be back again?

I would expect Block to have a better season in 2017. Bakkerud has shown the car has the pace and no doubt there will be some factory development as 2016 was a test year.

Nothing confirmed officially yet (so no addition to the list...), but it can be assumed that Peugeot-Hansen (with Loeb and the two Hansen brothers) and World RX Team Austria will also compete in World RX again. Münnich wasn´t sure in December and I haven´t heard anything about Olsbergs MSE, JRM and Larsson for a long time. Doesn´t it make sense for Honda to be involved in World RX? I would love to see the Civic here...

Uh, that American model is plain ugly and the new Civic is too, but the current Type R would be nice...

Martin Prokop at M-Sport today talking of "an exciting new project". He had a big falling out with WRC organizers last year and no new-WRC spec cars available for a true privateer.

So WRX or ERX campaign with an M-Sport Fiesta?

No. Prokop forms a team with Østberg this year. They both have WRC17-spec-cars.

Hoonigan has started pre-season testing. With all the posts from Bakkerud and Block saying during the last season that it was a learning year, I think it is pretty sure Hoonigan will be back.

Another video shows two Polo's, Solberg and Johan both testing in the dark. Cars sound great and look pretty quick!

I was watching those videos last night. The Polo has a very aggressive note on the overrun, very reminiscent of the DS3: perhaps a clue that there is a Pipo engine under the bonnet again?

I actually saw Petter at the Dirt 4 launch yesterday: sadly I was unable to get close enough to ask him any questions about the specification of the new cars!

EKS´s driver announcement was planned for today, but it has been postponed. Difficult to say who it is. Heikkinen? Scheider? Larsson? Nitiss? Kevin Hansen? Definitively more candidates than seats...

I doubt Hansen is the second driver. It is a real lottery though to guess who the driver might be.

Heikkinen wrote on facebook a few days ago that he would announce his plans soon. He posted updates from testing with EKS in Mettet in december.

Asked by Motorsport.com if the Polos were brand new rallycross cars or using existing platforms from Volkswagen’s stable, Solberg said: “It’s a combination, for sure. I have a lot of confidence and it will be good.”

New engine layout for 2017

The Norwegian star also revealed that the new cars have transversally-mounted engines. Previous Polos raced in World RX by Marklund Motorsport and Kristoffersson Motorsport have used longitudinally-mounted units, similar to Solberg’s double-title winning Citroen DS3.

The transverse engine orientation falls in line with Volkswagen Motorsport’s existing technology, a layout generally preferred by manufacturer-backed teams to be more akin to the road going versions of the car.

“Of course it changes a lot of things you know, but it’s just adaptation of driving style and it [transverse] fits me better,” said Solberg, before referencing his unique setup preferences.

“It will still be soft! We’re working a lot with inertia, weight distribution and centre of gravity, all these things. We will be better than before.”

Just seen a post on Rallycross tv facebook page and it has a few more pics and vids from the test. From the pics it looks very much like a 2016 Polo R WRC, the main give away being the rear shot with the boot open and no cooling system to be seen.
