Schumacher: did he or didn't he?

The 8 hour stewards enquiry says Schumacher deliberately stopped on the circuit, therefore ruining any chances of others gaining a faster time than he.

Personally, I thoughtexactly that when I saw it. It even looks like he steers towards the barrier for no reason!

Anyway, I've heard many a criticism and many a support for Schumy and wondered how people feel today!

There's already a long thread about this very question over in the F1 forum. I don't really think there's anything marshal specific about the question, is there?

At first I couldn't believe what he was doing. It looked as though he going to do exactly this - park it up and get the session stopped. In the olden days - I think this kind of 'sportsmanship' was not that unusual - I recall reading reports from years back of how drivers would park and stall their cars in ridiculous positions in order to get sessions stopped. Anyhoo, Schumacher has made a few cockups at Monaco - years ago he nearly crashed at ste devote but manaaged to avoid hitting the barriers and rejoin the track. Then more recently than that he stuffed it into the barriers on the way to the tunnel. So, the answer I would have to give is that what he did looked dubious - but I couldn't be sure if it was deliberate.

What causes me greater concern as a marshal - was that Alonso was able to post a time within seven thousandths of Schumacher's pole time having gone past Schumacher who was being attended to by marshals on the track. I would have had more sympathy with Alonso had he slowed by more than a fraction of a second.

Asp, you beat me to posting. But as you can see from my above post - I think that there was a marshal specific issue.

Alpha Charlie 6 has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
All Observers are taught not to use the word ''DELIBERATE'' in any of their reports. If they do use that word they are chided by the C of C, who will tell them that only the perpetrator themself will know if their action has been deliberate.

Even the stewards could not have been in MS's head to know if his action was deliberate.

To me, it look like a similar problem to that which Massa had suffered previously!!

Schumacher usually goes off somewhere on every circuit during practice.

'course it was deliberate. a driver of his calibre ....................
what annoys me is his attitude that he he thought he could get away with it, AND it was so totally unncessary as we saw during the race he came from 22nd to 5th. No mean feat at Monaco

As a huge fan of his I was both amazed and apalled to see what ocurred at Rascasse, even if Fernando did stick it on pole as he was due to do, it would have made for a fantastic race. Now he has to re-build his popularity base once again after another stupid decision, be it his own or the teams. Not a happy Tifosi fan.

ah yes, but he got stuck behind Button until lap 20, and after that didn't really 'overtake' anyone. Obvious really, new engine, one-stop stratagy - bit like Super-DC really getting up to 3rd!!

What the stewards should have done, as well putting him to the back, was to make him stay as he was on pole. i.e. chosen fuel strategy, and same engine - or a 12place drop at the NEXT GP if he changed anything!
(Now that would have livened Silverstone up.............zzzzz)
