DTM-M3 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
DTM Opel Omega

Hello,

a good friend is the owner of an ex. Irmscher DTM Omega. He raced this car the last two years in different historc race events. Now he repaint it and take on the orginal DTM livery. Here some videos of the car.

First roll-out:

Remove the old livery:

fresh repinted with new livery:

Very interesting, you don't see or hear much about these cars, plenty on the BMW's, a fair bit on the Merc's, but almost nothing on the Opels or Audis. Tell me, did the Opel run a 3.0L or 3.6L engine? And how much hp? I believe the suspension was all RS500, at least on the Eggenberger cars, for obvious reasons!

The owner of the car is a good friend. I have a M3 E30 prepared to DTM/Group A and we drove together at the touringcar Revival last year at the Nürburgring.

In the Omega is a 3.6 L DTM engine working. The engine have 440 hp. The Team Irmscher raced it 1991 in DTM. So it is a nice race car with historic. This year we want to drive at some Events.

I also have a DTM M3.

I have just bought a Holinger 6 spd gearbox for it, it is from a DTM Opel Omega funnily enough. Same gearbox as the M3, but 1st, 2nd, 3rd ratios different, and input shaft a little bit longer.

Who built the DTM Omegas, and how many were built in total?

I am more special with the E30 M3. There are not so many DTM Omegas. I know some guys here in germany who have such DTM Omegas. But I know more people who have M3 or Mercedes DTM cars. One man in the north of germany have 4 DTM Omegas, but I dont know witch one. My friend have the 1991 Irmscher car, driver Franz Engstler. A man in east germany have the "Tura Omega" from 1993.

Here is his website:

Lovely looking cars I always thought. Would that be one of the cars that was penned as a possible to go to Bathurst in 1991?

Did the car race at the 1992 Nurburgring 24 Hours race, I remember seeing the car in the official video.

I was at Donington Park when the DTM came over for the first time in 1991. These are two of the best photos from that weekend. I have three more if you'd be interested.
The first is Franz coming out of the Melbourne hairpin. Second,at the top of the Craner Curves.

Blimey I knew I should have bought that 3000GSi manual for peanuts and made a race car of it, they sure are a great looking car, a timeless shape. I know the 3000GSi wouldnt have stood up to the M3's in the Pre 93 championship but it would have been in a different class at least so may have done OK in the championship overall, just have too many cars around me, shame.

Very nice, thanks for posting. I have the 1992 Nurburgring 24hr race on DVD, and the Omega did quite well from memory, 3rd I think? Also the 1991 DTM. A pity they never developed these cars like the Mercs, BMW's or Audis,as i think they could have been very good. I am guessing Opel probably did not have the same budget as the others?

Is it rare to see the Evolution 500 road car in Germany? And did they share the same 3.6L engine size as the DTM car, or were they only 3.0L like the "ordinary" Omega?

What sort of excuse is that???

(The Opel 3000GSi would also be eligible for the "CSCC Deutsche Marques", albeit not with a DTM style body kit & aero!)

The guy stuck on ebay after I wimped out and made nearly a grand of it!!! Duh. i should have just bought it and stuck it in the yard it wasnt gonna devalue thats for sure.

Yes the Evo 500 is a rare car in germany. But it is the same with the M3 E30 or the Mercedes Evo1 and Evo2.
